He’s Divorcing His Wife After He Caught Her Lying About How Many Times She Was Married Before Him

Five months ago, this 37-year-old man got married to his 34-year-old wife, and he assumed that she was only married one time before him since that’s what she told him.
As for his track record, he also was married previously one time, and knowing about his wife’s history didn’t bother him.
A couple of months ago, he was filling out paperwork for his wife’s passport, and at one point in the process, there was a section for him to fill out her old last names.
He ended up Googling his wife, and he was stunned by what he found. There on Google was his wife’s maiden name, her divorced name (which he completely knew about), and a third last name he had never heard his wife use.
“So I dug some more,” he explained. “Found a court record for this other marriage. I confronted her about the lie, which she wouldn’t take ownership of.”
“[I] fought with her for hours to get her to admit she lied and that it was wrong. During this conversation, I explained that I wasn’t upset at the number of previous marriages (now two, when I only knew of one), but I was upset at the lie.”
He interrogated his wife about what else she could be hiding, like additional marriages or even children, but she promised up and down that she had nothing else she was keeping a secret.
He chose to forgive his wife and put the incident behind him, but little did he know it wouldn’t be quite that easy to forget about his wife’s enormous lie.
“Well, just a few days ago, guess what your boy finds out on the internet?” he asked. “THERE’S ANOTHER MARRIAGE THAT WAS HIDDEN FROM ME. Yep. Yes.”

He went back to his wife with more evidence that she lied again to him about how many times she was previously married, and she instantly got defensive.
She tried to laugh it off and say she was young, and she also mentioned that nothing was preventing him from digging into her past.
How many times she was married before him is hardly the only thing she has lied to him about, and it’s so bad he could write a book.
Another example of something his wife lied about was a photo hanging on their wall. His wife said it was her sister, and since she has two, he asked her which sister was in the photo.
This caused his wife to freak out on him, and she tore every photo off the wall and tossed them in the trash.
Several days after her rage about the photo, she confessed that the photo in question wasn’t of her sister but of her.
She also told him that she looked way too different in the photo, so she was concerned he wouldn’t want to be with her anymore if she still looked like that, which made no sense to him.
But anyway, he informed his wife he wants a divorce after the marriage incident, and she didn’t believe him.
He ended up bringing home some divorce papers to sign to prove to her he wasn’t kidding, but she will not sign the photos.
Then, his wife stole the papers, which he had to go to the courthouse to get in the first place and spend two hours completing, and she wants to talk before giving the papers back to him.
As for why he wants a divorce, he feels like his wife is a stranger, someone he clearly does not know.
And in case you’re wondering, no, he can’t just get his marriage annulled because lying about old relationships does not count as fraud. Who knew?
Also, he already spoke to a lawyer, who assured him he can keep all of the assets he entered into his marriage with, and the only thing he has purchased with his wife in the five months they have been married is a candle. Which he says she can keep.
What advice do you have for him?
