She Wants To Punish Her Daughter By Not Allowing Her To Go On A School Trip After Finding Out She’s Been Bullying Another Girl

When you’re a parent, it’s imperative to teach your children that their actions have consequences.
One woman is torn about telling her teenage daughter she can’t go on a school trip she helped pay for after finding out she’s been bullying another girl at school.
Her daughter, Ella, is 15-years-old and plays in her school band. At the beginning of the school year, she found out the school band would be going on a trip to Orlando.
“Of course, the trip was expensive,” she said.
“Since Ella is growing up, my husband and I decided that if she wanted to go, she would have to pay half the cost. Ella agreed, and she started spending weekends or teacher workdays on holidays babysitting her siblings for $22 an hour.”
In addition to babysitting, Ella would take on small jobs for friends and relatives and eventually saved up enough money to pay for half of her Orlando trip. She and her husband were very proud of her.
However, just as she was about to sign Ella up for the trip a few days ago, she received some very disappointing information from her school.
“I was informed that Ella had been mistreating a girl in her grade for having a mental illness [by] writing awful notes and putting them in the girl’s bag, spreading disgusting and derogatory rumors, [and] posting things about her online,” she explained.
“It’s a whole mess, and when I was called in, I could barely even listen the moment after I was told my daughter was bullying someone. I thought I had raised her right, told her to treat everyone with respect and kindness.”

Ella was given a short suspension from the school, but other than that, there were no other forms of punishment. But, she felt something else needed to be done to truly reprimand Ella for her actions.
When she found out the girl Ella had been bullying was in the band and would be on the Orlando trip, she realized that Ella probably shouldn’t be allowed to go on the trip, even though she would pay for half of it.
However, her husband and a few friends don’t think that would be a fair punishment since Ella worked hard to raise money for the trip. Still, she can’t think of other effective ways to punish her.
“Of course, I’ll let Ella keep what she earned; [I] just [would] not let her go on that trip,” she added.
“I don’t want that girl to have any possibility of being bullied again.”
Do you think her idea is reasonable, or should Ella be allowed on the school trip?
