This 32-year-old woman says that the first four or five years of her relationship with her 35-year-old fiancé were absolutely wonderful.

But then, their connection began to deteriorate. They’ve now been with one another for more than nine years, and it’s been feeling like they’ve been approaching the end of their time together for a while.

Mainly, it dawned on her that her fiancé was quick to come up with reasons for not being able to help her clean their home or even cook.

She would beg him to please pitch in, but he would refuse. From there, he began to make her believe it was a major inconvenience for him to travel with her to go visit her family.

He would make nasty comments, driving her to tears. He also made the holidays so miserable she suddenly had panic attacks.

He cannot communicate in a way that’s healthy or effective, and he doesn’t really try to apologize when he hurts her feelings.

“I’ve been on the ‘last straw’ mark for a few years now, but I always end up forgiving him because, I mean, I love him,” she explained.

“It’s kind of like the saying “When it’s great, it’s really great, but when it’s bad, it’s really bad.”

Earlier this week, they both had a day off from work, so they thought it would be a great use of their time to get some errands completed and then head to a local sandwich shop to have lunch.

Everything was going well, but when they arrived at the sandwich shop, it was pretty busy and one employee was left to deal with the craziness.

She and her fiancé stood in line for a little under 30 minutes, and they could overhear the employee mentioning to people ahead of them that they didn’t have some ingredients available or some things had gone bad (they did lose power in their town over the hurricane).

When it came time for them to order, they told the employee what they wanted, but she said they were out of the spinach that goes on their favorite sandwich.

She wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it, but her fiancé absolutely flipped out on the employee and started screaming.

He yelled that they would be leaving, stormed off, and waited for her to follow. But she was awkwardly standing there in front of a crowd who witnessed her fiancé’s meltdown over spinach.

Attempting to smooth things over, she let the employee know that her fiancé was angry, and they were going to just leave.

She was shocked when the employee said she’s going to call the cops if she walks out. At that moment, her fiancé texted her, saying to pick up the sandwiches and that their relationship is over.

“The cops AND I’m being broken up with??” she wondered. “I texted him that he left me in a bad situation, and he knows how bad my anxiety is, and then the employee hits me with ‘I can’t believe you would come in here, know that we’re low on ingredients, and then waste the little that we have.'”

“I mean, she’s right though. I was seriously just going to get lettuce instead of spinach, but now I’m standing there, being threatened by everyone for something that I didn’t even do.”

Her fiancé sends her a second text saying she should get a ride home from someone else, and she began to really panic.

She paid for the sandwiches and used the bag to try to hide on her way out the door. Her fiancé was waiting outside, but he spent the next 15 minutes berating her while she sobbed.

“The whole ride home, this man blamed me, told me that I’m not a ‘team player’ and that I ‘chose my side’ while screaming at me at the top of his lungs,” she said.

This happened three days ago, and she has not talked to him since. He did text her an apology, but she’s over this and thinking that perhaps they should break up.

What advice do you have for her?
