How much do a bride and groom actually owe their guests in terms of an experience? Some people say it’s their day and they can do whatever they want, and sure, that’s true.
But when you’re asking people to drop thousands to watch a 15-minute ceremony in Montana with no reception, no activities, and no photos, at some point you have to ask whether you should even be inviting guests at all.
This woman’s best friend is getting married, and she’s advertising the big event as a vacation-style elopement. Her best friend stated that if guests want to bring along a plus one, they have to find their own accomodations for a hotel.
The location of the wedding is right outside of a national park in Montana, so you can only rent a cabin for a weekend to stay in during the wedding, which runs $500 to $1,200 just for that.
“If you decide to attend alone, you can stay with the bride/groom in their cabin, but it will be bunk beds only and sharing a room with multiple other people,” she explained.
“They were going to get a bigger cabin, or so I thought in the beginning, but that quickly changed. Then you add in the price of flights, which for me was going to be $600+, also she was requiring us all to rent our own cars to get around, another $300-500.”
“And don’t forget you also have to buy your dress, another $150-250. The details of said wedding are also… well stupid. There will be photos taken but only for the bride and groom..that’s is. The wedding party will not be photographed with them. So why am I paying $500 for makeup and hair?? No idea.”
The wedding ceremony will be finished within 15 to 20 minutes. When it’s over, there will not be a reception or activities for the guests.
So that means she’s going to have to fly in, watch a ceremony that’s going to be over faster than a TV show, and have nothing else to do for the whole weekend, because her best friend isn’t having a welcome dinner or a brunch or anything to entertain guests.

Her best friend is telling everyone that the wedding can double as a vacation. She’s struggling with having to drop $2,000 on a wedding that really should be a destination vacation for her, but she’s not interested in seeing Montana.
“The lack of planning and activities is also infuriating. I think this wedding is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, and I informed my friend I officially was not attending and didn’t want to be a bridesmaid,” she continued.
“She has not spoken to me in over 3 months, and I’m assuming it is the end of the friendship, which is really upsetting considering we have been friends for close to 15 years.”
Oh, and the kicker is that her best friend skipped her wedding completely, and her excuse was that she was way too busy to be there.
She’s left wondering if she’s a jerk for not attending this strange wedding.
I mean, the fact that her best friend didn’t show up to her wedding because she didn’t have time tells her that her friend doesn’t value her or their friendship.
Why should she go so far out of her way for someone who’s like that? She shouldn’t! Her friend is rude to think that guests should trek all the way out to Montana without providing them with food, drinks, or entertainment.
She should stay home and not bother wasting money on this.
