Living near the woods can be a peaceful and immersive nature experience…until it isn’t. About two years ago, TikToker Kristen (@baddiebabymamma) was lying in bed when she heard a bunch of coyotes howling in the woods behind her house in New England.

She went up to the window, opened it, and looked out to see if she could spot them. Immediately, all the coyotes stopped howling.

She heard a person giggling in the silence, which startled her. She quickly shut the window, climbed back into bed, and convinced herself that she had just imagined it. To her, the best course of action was to pretend she hadn’t heard anything instead of investigating.

Another weird incident occurred when she and her ex-boyfriend were going through a breakup. She had a bunch of his hair, which was really long, and she conducted a burning ceremony with it to help free her from his clutches once and for all.

It was a symbolic way of letting go of the relationship.

One day, her ex came over with some of his friends to pick up his stuff from the garage. The encounter quickly turned hostile. He started screaming at her very aggressively, escalating the tension in an already difficult situation.

All of a sudden, there came the sound of multiple, large, grown men running through the woods toward them. At first, her ex thought she was trying to have him jumped by a whole gang of men, but she blurted out that there were skinwalkers in the woods, a reference to a supernatural shapeshifter often discussed in folklore.

She felt like she was in a TV show and that some paranormal beings were watching the situation unfold and had decided to intervene in order to protect her.

Her ex ran away in a panic. Meanwhile, she rushed inside and locked the door. She hunkered down in her bed, waiting for the stomping of feet to go away.

She didn’t feel like she was in danger, but got the sense that her ex probably was.

“It sounded like fully grown men running,” recalled Kristen. “It didn’t sound like an animal. It sounded like people, and it was from different spots starting off, but all at the same time. It was like whatever was in the woods was trying to protect me from him, and it was so scary.”

After listening to a podcast that was discussing eerie encounters in the wilderness, she learned that if an animal doesn’t sound like it’s supposed to, it could be something pretending to be an animal.

Sometimes, if you catch them off guard, they will laugh or snicker.

Maybe the incidents were coincidences, misheard wildlife, or something more mysterious. Nothing like that has happened ever since, but it still haunts her to this day.
