Recently, TikToker Kristine (@gretavanfruit) went on her first date in six months after joining a dating app. He was an ER nurse who seemed really cute and nice, so she was excited to get to know him.
They talked for a few weeks before meeting up at a bar. He gave her his address because the original plan had been to meet at his house.
At the bar, the date was going well, or so she thought. As they were finishing up their drinks, he suggested that they go for a walk. She agreed because they were in a historic district in the downtown area, so there was plenty to see.
He got up to refill their drinks before they left, but he returned empty-handed, saying that he had to leave. The hospital called him in to deal with an emergency. He gave her a hug and a kiss goodbye before dashing off to the hospital.
“So, then, I’m like not really sure how long this on-call deal is going to take,” said Kristine.
“Mind you, I drove an hour and a half from where I live to the town in which he lives just so I could convenience him a little bit, knowing that he is an ER nurse. I was trying to be the nice one.”
He texted her, apologizing for his abrupt departure. He told her that the emergency involved six casualties caused by two cars in a head-on collision.
But when she drove past the hospital where he worked, she didn’t see his truck in the parking lot. She also didn’t see any ambulances wheeling people in. The hospital was only six minutes away from where they were having dinner.
Since she didn’t see his truck, she drove to his house and spotted his truck there. She knocked on the door, but he didn’t answer, so she finally left.

“If he didn’t like me, that would’ve been fine, but lying about the reason he ran out is insane,” she wrote in a comment.
In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their takes and pointed out the red flags in the situation.
“So, I used to be married to a nurse, and when they call in, you usually have about an hour before you have to be in. For him to just bolt out the door like that was nonsense. On top of that, he could’ve stayed and finished his food. You’re also not allowed to drink while you’re on call, either. So if he knew he was on call, he shouldn’t have been drinking alcohol,” wrote one user.
“My BFF’s husband [has been] an ER nurse for 30 years. He’s never been called into work. He works in NYC, so pretty busy,” commented another.
“He saw someone he knew and obviously didn’t want them to see he was with a girl,” suggested a third.
