When TikToker @sassysouthernmouf’s friend had a mental health crisis, he was admitted to a mental hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She and her husband were not able to pick up their friend once he was released because the facility was about three hours away.

A social worker contacted them and said that they had found him a form of transportation, even though he did not have any insurance or money to pay anyone to bring him home.

According to @sassysouthernmouf, they seemed overly willing and optimistic to bring him home using this transportation service. After several hours of silence, she reached back out to the mental hospital for an update.

She was told that her friend had been released three hours ago, which did not line up with the timeline because at that point, it had been five or six hours.

When their friend finally arrived at their house, he was in a very disheveled and frantic state. He appeared to be under the influence. After giving him an hour to calm down, they started asking him questions about what happened.

He told them that the driver of the transportation van asked if he wanted to smoke. It ended up making him feel ill. He looked around and realized that the road signs were all in the opposite direction from where their house was.

The driver was most likely under the assumption that he couldn’t walk because he had shot himself in the foot, which is why he wound up in the mental hospital.

He told the driver to pull over at a gas station and demanded to be let out of the vehicle.

“What is so crazy to me is once this driver realizes that our friend can walk and that he understands that they’re going in the wrong direction toward our home, he tells our friend to get back in the car, and everything’s okay, and he turns around and starts going in the right direction,” said @sassysouthernmouf.

Now, she wants to know if anyone else has ever had a similar experience after being discharged from a mental hospital. She added that it seemed very dangerous for individuals who might not have any friends or family to vouch for them.

To this day, her friend is very traumatized.

In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own stories where something fishy was going on in mental health facilities.

“I haven’t experienced this before, but I can say that when I was a kid, I was in and out of psych wards, and they used me as a guinea pig and drugged me up so much that I have little to no memory of anything while I was there,” commented one user.

“A girl in my town has been missing for five years. She was released from a mental institute. No evidence of her anywhere. The police told her mom they suspect she got trafficked,” shared another.

“Similar story with my brother being released from a nursing home. They tried really hard to release him when we couldn’t be there to drive him. My intuition kicked in, and I drove to get him immediately. They were not happy,” added a third.
