She Refused To Take Off Her Glasses At Her Cousin’s Wedding And Now Her Aunt Is Getting Mean About Her Ruining The Wedding Photos

A 34-year-old woman recently was a bridesmaid at her 24-year-old cousin Amy’s wedding. Now, she has absolutely awful vision, so she does wear her glasses every single day, otherwise, she cannot see a single thing.

She will only remove her glasses to go to sleep or to take a shower. Other than that, they’re always on, or she can’t see.

Just before Amy got married, Amy explained to her that one of the other women in the bridal party wore glasses but was buying contacts for the wedding.

Amy basically suggested in more or fewer words that she needed to get them too.

She told Amy that she does not wear contacts, which Amy knew, and to compromise, she brought over a bunch of different glasses that she has.

She let Amy select the pair of glasses she wanted her to wear for the wedding. Amy picked up a pair of bright, neon pink glasses since Amy thought they would look great with the bridesmaid dress.

The day of Amy’s wedding arrived, and as the bridal party was getting dressed and done, her aunt (Amy’s mom) brought up contacts.

She reminded her aunt she does not even wear contacts, so she didn’t get any for the wedding. In response, her aunt pulled a face that clearly expressed her disgust.

She left the area her aunt was in before her aunt could make things worse, and she figured that was the end of it.

Then, the bridesmaids all got together to start heading into the wedding ceremony, and again, her aunt was all over her.

Her aunt insisted she had to remove her glasses, to which she pointed out she can’t see anything without them, so she didn’t feel comfortable doing that.

Her aunt then got on her about “a less flashy pair” but she only brought that pair of glasses, because Amy wanted her to wear them.

Amy tried to get involved and get her aunt to leave her alone, and they got into a small fight right before the ceremony started.

They get through the ceremony, start to take photos, and her aunt will not let the glasses thing go at all.

“Now it’s time for photos and yet again Amy’s mom is coming for my medically required accessibility aids,” she said.

“She tells me I’m ruining the photos and to take off my glasses. I protest that I can’t see without my glasses. She says I don’t need to see to smile. I say I’m not comfortable putting my glasses down somewhere strange and she offers to hold them for me.”

Her aunt just kept nagging her about her glasses, and Amy is attempting to get her to go along with it or get her mom to stop. What a mess.

At last, she has had enough of this, and she tells Amy and her aunt they can keep taking photos without her in them.

She walked off, but she did stay for the reception, where she stayed far away from Amy and her aunt.

Right before the night is done, she talks to Amy about everything, and Amy said she was sorry for how her mom behaved.

She said sorry to Amy for getting upset, and everything ends on a good note. Apparently, her aunt had other ideas.

“That was Saturday and Amy’s on her honeymoon, but Amy’s mom out here slandering me to the world,” she continued.

“The photos went up on Facebook and when my grandma asked why I wasn’t in half the shots … yeah.”

Her mom and dad completely understand and are siding with her, but some of her other family members are mad at her for not having just taken her glasses off for the photos.

While she could have done that, she really was uneasy removing them. She also doesn’t think anyone should be guilting her into feeling bad for wearing glasses in the first place.

Perhaps she should have sucked things up at Amy’s wedding and just taken them off for photos, but people routinely make her feel unattractive for having glasses and she’s over it.

How would you deal with this?
