“When she is finished with the school, it will be around 230K student loans in total (80% of them private loans with variable interest from 5-14%).”
“I truly love this girl. She has so many qualities I never thought I would find in a partner, but this debt is something that I feel will really hinder the quality of my life due to the fact that with those monthly payments, she basically won’t be able to save any money at all…for 10 years.”
He has tried to address his fears with his girlfriend, who doesn’t understand why her debt will impact him in any way.
He did mention to her that if they get married, her money and money issues also become his as well and something he will need to deal with too.
He has absolutely zero debt, and if he does marry her while signing up with her debt, he’s not sure how he’s going to pay down that $220,000.
He can’t just cross his fingers and hope for the best here, so he’s thinking he might have to break up with her over this one.
