He Refused To Let His Friend’s Pregnant Wife Eat His Own Wife’s Food At A Barbecue
This thirty-three-year-old man has basically had the same friends since he was in college over a decade ago.
They all met during their freshmen year, became buddies, and have remained close ever since. So now, his “group” consists of him, his four guy friends, and their wives.
“It started out as my buddies and me. But, as we got older, our families have expanded, and so has the friend group,” he noted.
And amidst growing families and busy careers, he and his friends try to have a barbecue once a month to stay in touch. Each time, the venue rotates, and someone takes a turn hosting the get-together.
While he and his wife, Jane, were at his friend John’s house for a barbecue this past weekend, though, things went seriously sideways.
For context, Jane has Autism spectrum disorder, and because of that, she has difficulty eating certain types of foods and has sensory issues.
“So, to be safe, I had given my friends a list of foods that are safe for her to eat and that won’t cause any problems,” he explained.
“They are really easy foods, and none of my friends have a problem accommodating her.”
At John’s barbecue, though, there was apparently a misunderstanding about Jane’s meal.

It all began after the food was done cooking and set outside. Then, John’s wife, Caroline, went up and grabbed the plate of food that was supposed to be served to Jane.
And after that, another wife, named Sarah, who is pregnant, caught of glimpse of Jane’s plate and wanted it for herself.
Sarah claimed that she did not want any of the regular barbecue food that was cooked for the entire group. Instead, she asked to eat the same stuff Jane was being served.
But, the problem was that John and Caroline had only prepared enough of his wife’s food for Jane. Rather than saying it was no problem, though, Sarah actually just doubled down.
“Sarah then demanded that my wife give up her food because she has a baby to nourish and my wife does not,” he recalled.
At that point, Jane was feeling pretty uncomfortable. And on top of that, it is difficult for Jane to communicate what she wants with other people.
So, he stepped in for his wife and told Sarah that Jane could only eat certain foods. Thus, the meal was hers.
Sarah did not take that well, though, and actually snapped back at him– claiming that just looking at the other food was making her nauseous. Sarah also said that she needed to eat something and decided that Jane’s food was the only meal that looked appealing to her.
Honestly, though, he apparently could not have cared less about how Sarah was feeling– because he just told Sarah that she or her husband could go back into the kitchen and make something else since Jane would not be giving up her food.
This obviously only escalated the fight, though, and Sarah got really pissed off. She even called him rude and inconsiderate before storming out of the barbecue.
Anyway, now, he has been left in a pretty awkward position. He is obviously very close friends with Sarah’s husband, Nick, and never intended to upset either of them.
At the same time, though, he did not want his wife to feel uncomfortable or be left without anything to eat.
So, he has been wondering if not letting his friend’s pregnant wife eat his own wife’s food was the wrong thing to do or not.
Do you think he had a right to stick up for his wife? Does being pregnant give you a free pass to be demanding? If you were in his shoes, how would you have handled this situation?
