This woman and her husband recently welcomed their first child into the world together. And last week, they were finally able to sneak away and spend an evening alone together for the first time since their baby was born.

“It’s my second child, but the first for my husband, so it was kind of a big deal for us,” she explained.

“We got a babysitter, and we went to a very fancy restaurant.”

So, obviously, they were both very excited about the outing. But, within just a few minutes of placing their order with the waiter, another couple sat right next to them. And, of course, that couple had a small baby in a stroller in tow.

The baby was reportedly well-behaved for the first few minutes, so she and her husband did not care at all. But then, the baby started crying.

The couple next to them immediately jumped into action and tried to comfort their baby. But, it ended up just being a repeating cycle of the baby waking up and wailing again right after the couple managed to get their child to sleep.

So, after realizing how the rest of the evening was going to go, she and her husband honestly wanted to just leave and find another restaurant.

However, they had already placed their orders, so she resorted to asking the waiter if they could just change tables.

“The waiter asked if there was a problem, and I said it was our first time out after having a baby and that we didn’t feel like spending our evening next to someone else’s crying baby,” she recalled.

And thankfully, her waiter was super understanding and immediately asked other staff members for help in setting up a new table for her and her husband.

She also noticed that another couple who were previously seated in the same area asked to switch tables, too.

The problem, though, was that the couple with the crying baby actually overheard her conversation with the waiter. And the baby’s mother got very upset and even called her out for being a jerk.

Then, the baby’s mother reportedly went “on and on” about how she must not have kids before claiming that “babies are also people.”

Finally, the baby’s mother said that she and her husband should “just accept” that babies are loud and cry and that there is nothing parents can do about it.

She did not want to start a fight with this other mother, but obviously, she had kids, and the mother’s accusations seriously pissed her off. So, she decided to share her own two cents before moving to the new table with her husband.

“I told [the baby’s mom] that she could actually do something about the crying– she could take her baby home so it can properly sleep and then let everyone else enjoy their meals,” she said. Yikes!

The baby’s mother did not like hearing that, though, and continued throwing comments back at her. Still, she just ignored the mother before moving to her new table.

And once there, she and her husband tried to have a nice evening, even though she claimed that they could still hear the wailing baby from across the restaurant.

“But at least it was not right next to us,” she noted– which was a win in her book.

Anyway, following the eventful evening, she decided to tell her sister about what had happened the following morning.

And to her surprise, her sister actually agreed with the baby’s mother and said she might have been a jerk.

According to her sister, she should not have told the waiter that the reason she and her husband wanted to move was because of the crying baby. Her sister also believes that what she said to the baby’s mother was out of line and rude.

So, even though she felt totally entitled to move tables and tell off the baby’s mother in the first place, her sister has made her question her actions.

And now, she has been left wondering if asking to move tables due to the crying baby was the wrong way to handle the situation.

Can you understand why she and her husband wanted a night away from crying babies? Should she not have told the waiter why they wanted to move tables, or does it not matter? Do you think her comments to the baby’s mother were warranted or not? If you had been in her shoes, what would you have done?
