She Said She Would Not Babysit Her Friend’s Son So Often Anymore Unless She Was Given Legal Rights In The Event Of An Emergency, And Her Friend Freaked Out

So, on top of feeling very nervous for the baby during that time, she was also literally powerless since she was not the baby’s mother. After all, the hospital had regulations about how much she could be with the baby and how much she could decide in terms of the baby’s care.

“And although he is better now, I am worried about looking after him again,” she revealed. Completely understandable.

However, this meant that when her friend ended up asking her to look after the baby again this past weekend, she kind of freaked out on her friend.

She explained to her friend how she had been placed in a horrible position without any means of intervention or authority over the baby’s care the last time she babysat. So, she ultimately told her friend that if she was going to be expected to watch the baby again, she would need some sort of guardianship or medical rights in the event of an emergency.

For whatever reason, though, her friend just did not understand that. Instead, her friend just ended up crying and actually accusing her of trying to “hold her friend hostage” with an ultimatum.

“An ultimatum that means my friend can’t see her parents if she doesn’t agree to give me rights to her son,” she clarified.

Anyway, since seeing how upset her friend was by her request for rights, she has been left feeling like kind of a jerk.

At first, she thought she was being very generous by watching her friend’s son and just wanted him to be in the best possible care whenever his mother was not present. Now, though, she has been left wondering if refusing to watch her friend’s son unless she gets some sort of legal rights was the wrong way to handle the situation.

What do you think about her friend keeping the baby boy from the family? What happens when her friend’s son eventually grows up and learns the truth? How about the medical rights– do you think it was reasonable for her to request that if she is watching her friend’s baby so often? If you were in her shoes, how would you navigate this situation?
