And afterward, her roommate reportedly just kept slinging more and more insults at her. So, she ended up telling Anna that she had absolutely no obligation to clean up after a man she didn’t know. She also pointed out how Anna is not obligated, either, and claimed that since Anna is studying in the United States, she should understand the customs are different here.
“When I leave to study in your country and start living off of it, that will be the moment I will share your values. But, for now, I don’t really care about them,” she told Anna.
If you could not have guessed, though, her response only made Anna even angrier. In fact, Anna then started to actually insult her personally, along with a bunch of other things. So finally, she decided to tell Anna off.
“I told her that if she likes how the women in her country behave that much, then maybe the solution to her problems is that she should just go back to her country and leave me alone,” she huffed.
Now, though, she has been left feeling very torn about how she handled the situation. While she stands behind the fact that she should not be expected to clean up after John, she also realizes that Anna may just be a product of her home environment.
So, she is still wondering whether telling Anna to go back to her country is justified or makes her a total jerk.
Do you think she should be expected to clean up after John? If Anna’s views do stem from her home environment, does that justify her being expected to adhere to them? How would you have handled this situation?
