His Sister Was Not Invited To His Future Sister-In-Law’s Bachelorette Party, So He Dropped Out Of His Brother’s Bachelor Party, And Their Relationship Has Remained Strained For Months Now
This twenty-six-year-old guy was the best man for his brother Brian’s wedding. So, he was obviously invited to go on his brother’s bachelor party trip to New Orleans.
The entire outing was coordinated by some of Brian’s friends, and he attended all of the planning sessions to hash out the itinerary. In turn, he claims that he had every intention of going to the bachelor party to support his brother.
However, his brother’s fiancée and future sister-in-law, Ella, then began planning her bachelorette party. Before she actually sent out the invitations, though, Ella reportedly called him for advice.
And during their conversation, it came out that she did not want to invite his sister since the bachelorette party was supposed to be a friend celebration– not a family trip. And he was pretty taken aback.
“I was kind of shocked because my sister was a bridesmaid for the wedding, so how can you not invite her?” he asked.
His mother also ended up hearing about Ella’s decision and tried to pressure her into inviting his sister.
Apparently, he also claims that many people dislike his sister– so his mother always tries to make sure that his sister is included in plans.
After his mom did that, though, Ella claimed to regret feeling “guilted and bullied” into making his sister a bachelorette.
Still, she claimed that she could still “make the trip right” by inviting her other closest friends. And that comment seriously upset him.
“I was floored. How incredibly rude to do to the family you’re marrying into?” he said.
He also claims that Ella kept trying to defend herself by underscoring that the wedding would be non-traditional. In other words, she felt like the titles and roles really did not matter in the grand scheme of things.
Plus, Ella pointed out that she and his sister never had a close relationship. In fact, Ella referenced past instances when his sister ruined a few nights out by overdrinking and said that she did not want her trip to be ruined, too.
Despite all of that, though, he still just could not understand how Ella would not invite her future sister-in-law to the bachelorette party.
“I still felt like my sister should be going because Ella has known her for eight years,” he vented.
Anyway, he ultimately decided to tell his mom about what happened and relayed everything that Ella had said. And if you could not have guessed, she was beyond devastated.
In fact, his mom actually began crying on the spot because her daughter was not invited. Then, this drama prompted a lengthy fight in which his family attacked his brother Brian since they wanted him to get Ella to change her mind about the party guest list.
Ella refused to budge on who she invited to her own party, though, and for whatever reason, he could not believe it. So, he actually decided to just drop out of his brother’s trip instead.
“I told Brian I obviously couldn’t go on his trip since our sister was clearly being left out. And if I go and my sister doesn’t, it would absolutely devastate my family,” he explained.
“I could not have long-term resentment with my family, so I chose to skip it and protect my family.”
Now, this entire ordeal happened months ago. To this day, though, he feels that his relationship with both Brian and Ella never recovered.
For instance, they used to all hang out together on the weekends and talk often. But, they rarely ever speak anymore.
Ella specifically believes that by going to his parents and telling them about the phone call, he betrayed her. So, she has been distant ever since, and his brother followed suit.
He still firmly believes that he was just doing right by his family, though. Moreover, his parents apparently completely supported his decision to skip Brian’s bachelor party to stand in solidarity with his sister.
Despite that support, though, he has been missing his relationship with his brother and sister-in-law. So now, he has been left wondering if skipping Brian’s bachelor party because his sister was not invited on Ella’s bachelorette trip was truly the right thing to do or not.
Do you think his family overreacted to Ella’s bachelorette trip preferences? Why do you think his mom was so distraught after she found out his sister was not invited? Should he have dropped out of his brother’s bachelor party or not? What would you have done?
