YouTube boasts over two million users who watch one billion hours of videos every day. But have you ever wondered how many of those viewers are children?

According to the Pew Research Center, 80 percent of parents with a child age eleven or younger reported that their child watches YouTube videos.

You can go to YouTube for almost anything–tutorials, product reviews, comedy, celebrity gossip, and more. So not only does the platform serve as a form of entertainment, but it can also be used for the purpose of education.

However, with all that’s online these days, it can be difficult for parents to filter out which channels are the most appropriate and engaging for an audience of children.

So we’re helping you narrow down the vast world of the internet with these 9 educational, kid-friendly YouTube channels.

Each channel contains creative, high-quality, and diverse content your child will love and learn from.

PBS Kids

The first on the list is PBS Kids, which is by far my favorite. It was essentially all I watched when I was growing up.

With over 1.7 million subscribers, the PBS Kids YouTube channel features clips and full episodes of the public broadcasting service’s most popular shows, such as Arthur, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and Curious George.

BrainPOP

Another classic choice is BrainPOP. During elementary school, I remember teachers putting on BrainPOP videos in the classroom, and they were always met with cries of excitement by all the students.

BrainPOP covers subjects ranging from science, math, social studies, literature, and more. What kid isn’t in awe of Moby the orange robot and his best friend, Tim?

TED-Ed

This is a useful resource not just for young kids but for those in high school as well. TED-Ed videos explain various concepts in a fascinating way that is relatable to students of all ages.

The videos spark ideas, inspirations, and intelligent questions, helping students learn more about the world around them and make connections. They’re also great for starting discussions in the classroom.

Khan Academy Kids

The Khan Academy Kids YouTube channel offers learning material for kids ages 2 to 7. Every week, a new “Circle Time” video encourages children to learn, read, and play together. There’s also a fun, interactive app that goes along with the videos.

Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls

This YouTube channel is aimed at kids in middle school. Founded by the actress Amy Poehler, the channel teaches kids to embrace being themselves, emphasizing intelligence and curiosity over “fitting in.”

The videos discuss the bigger issues in life in a funny but informative way.

StorylineOnline

StorylineOnline is mainly for elementary school-aged kids. The goal of the channel is to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Celebrated actors and other high-profile figures, such as Betty White, Oprah Winfrey, and Chris Pine, read children’s books aloud alongside images of creative illustrations. Reading aloud to kids has been shown to improve reading, writing, and communication skills.

SciShow Kids

The science-based channel features the host Jessi and her robot rat companion, Squeaks. They answer science questions for young, curious minds, conducting research and experiments and talking with experts. Finally, your kids will be able to find answers as to why the sky is blue.

Mike Likes Science

This YouTube channel is another one about science, and it targets middle school to high-school-aged kids. Mike creates music videos and raps about science and math-related subjects. The catchy tunes definitely help students remember the material better.

Art for Kids Hub

Art for Kids Hub, starring Rob, a dad of four, is a family channel that teaches kids how to draw. All you need to do is jump in with paper and coloring supplies. They even have origami and painting lessons.
