She then asked her boyfriend if he was proposing to her, and he just said that he wasn’t before questioning her about why she figured he was asking her to marry him.
He pointed out that the ring was simply her birthday gift because she had mentioned liking that specific ring.
She reminded her boyfriend that it wasn’t just any ring, it was an engagement ring, and she had shown it to him with the hopes of him prosing to her with it.
Her boyfriend insisted she should have made that clear to him before revealing that he would never buy her a ring “that cheap” if he planned on proposing.
The worst part was he concluded their conversation by expressing that he simply was not ready to get married anytime soon.
“We ended up getting into a huge fight over this, which resulted in him leaving our apartment for a few days to stay with friends,” she said.
“I’ve been alone at our apartment and don’t know what to do. I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong here. I thought the engagement ring was a pretty clear sign of what I wanted. Like, how do you look at that and think I would want it as a birthday gift?”
“Do I have a right to be upset? Should I keep pushing the proposal to him? What do I do with a ring that I wanted for a proposal, not as a birthday gift?”
