He didn’t ask his son not to share the news of his retirement with his parents, and so they ended up finding out about it and angrily called him up.
Their anger stemmed from him and his wife pretending they were struggling financially for years when all along they had enough savings to be able to retire.
He didn’t share this news with them himself because he knew that they would just begin to ask him for money because scenarios like this had happened to them in the past.
For instance, he and his wife once went on vacation and posted about it online, and upon seeing it, his family asked for financial help.
“We lied and told them we won some money but had spent it all on the [trip],” he said.
Do you think that he is obligated to help out his family financially, or is he allowed to use his money however he wishes? Do you think it’s strange that he has, and wants to continue to, pretend that they are less well off than they actually are?
