Before her aunt could intervene and change the subject, she blurted something along the lines of, “If what you want is [to] traumatize that kid for life, be my guest.”
The couple went awkwardly silent, and her aunt tried to change the subject as quickly as possible while her uncle pulled her away from the conversation.
“I understand when I’m being dismissed, so I ate some more food and left for the night,” she recalled.
After the party, her phone was flooded with texts from her extended family, who scolded her for “ruining the birth” of that young couple’s baby. They said her comments made the couple feel like bad parents.
She thinks in the end, she saved another kid from being traumatized by watching a live birth, but she also understands it wasn’t her place to say anything to this couple since she doesn’t know them.
Should she feel guilty for “ruining” this couple’s birth plan, or were her comments not that bad?
