“I’m struggling to figure out what to even do or say to him.”
She claimed that her boyfriend got into debt from buying other non-essential items in the first place. So, the fact that he wants a custom-made Halloween costume just makes zero sense to her.
In fact, she believes it is outrageous that her boyfriend thinks this is a good investment decision, given his current financial situation.
Yet, he didn’t see it that way at all and actually tried to say that the loan “wasn’t a lot of money for her.”
Anyway, no matter how many times she’s tried to express the toll that her boyfriend’s dependence takes on her, nothing gets through.
They don’t even live together right now, so she’s suggested that her boyfriend either look into loan consolidation or get someone to manage his finances. Still, she doesn’t think her approach is working.
So now, she has no idea what steps she can take to get her boyfriend to take responsibility and fix this major issue in their relationship.
Do you agree that asking for a $1,500 loan for a custom Halloween costume is a horrible idea? Would you ever be able to remain in a relationship like this? Do you think she should try to fix the issue or just cut her losses?
