Around three weeks ago, this 31-year-old guy began seeing a 27-year-old girl. He felt an instant connection with her, and their chemistry was off the charts.

This girl did mention to him that she went through a very agonizing breakup back in August, but it didn’t raise any red flags for him since she barely talked about her ex on their dates.

“In the first two weeks, she was quite enthusiastic and affectionate, and then she started becoming cold and distant over the past week,” he explained.

“So I asked her yesterday (via text) if everything was alright because I had noticed the change in the dynamic between us.”

“She told me, after some deliberation, that she still has feelings for her ex, and she “needs to process them.”

He is aware that she is not trying to get back together with her ex and date him, but that doesn’t make it any easier for him to react to the fact that she still feels for the guy.

He would like to be patient and give her space, and not really speak to her for the next couple of weeks, that way, she can get the time together to sift through her feelings.

“I really like her,” he said. “Am I naive for thinking this can be salvaged? Has anyone here been in a situation like hers (being hot and cold with a new person after a bad break-up), and if yes, did you manage to resolve your emotions?”

He’s just not sure if giving her space is the right thing to do or if he should cut his losses and move on since waiting around for her isn’t a guarantee of anything.
