Have you ever been caught in an uncomfortable situation where you can only invite a certain amount of people to a big event?

One teenager was scolded by his birth mom after he introduced his stepmom as his mom at his graduation ceremony.

He’s 18-years-old and has an interesting family history.

His dad and birth mom, Melanie, became pregnant with him when they were only 18. Melanie originally thought she wanted to have a family at that age, so his parents dropped out of school when he was born to raise him.

Unfortunately, when he was only six months old, Melanie decided she wasn’t as ready to be a mother as she thought and abandoned him and his dad.

While he was a baby, his dad and his dad’s grandparents took care of him while his dad went back to school. There, his dad met an exchange student from India named Anita and married her when he was a toddler.

After his dad and Anita graduated, they all moved to a different state. His dad and Anita got P.h.ds and jobs as professors at a local college. When he was eight, Anita gave birth to his little brother, Peter.

Since he was a kid, he’s been calling Anita ‘mom’ because she stepped into a mother figure role for him when he was little.

“Ever since I could talk, I called Anita mom,” he said.

“She was always my mom. She loves me, never showed any difference in affection towards me [or] Peter, and is my best friend.”

He hadn’t heard from Melanie until last year when he found out she remarried and had more children around Peter’s age. She began inviting him to spend time with her, and he didn’t really have any feelings for her until recently.

But now, he’s wrapped up in drama with Melanie.

He recently graduated high school, and the ceremony was a big deal since he got to make a speech. However, he only received three free tickets for friends and family to attend the ceremony. Anyone else who wanted to go would have to pay $25.

“I gave the tickets to Dad, Anita, and Peter,” he recalled.

“Melanie was offended and asked why I couldn’t give her one [while] my parents pay for Peter.”

He told Melaine that this was how he wanted to do things, so she bought tickets for herself and her family.

At one point, after he made a family-related speech at the ceremony, a man went up to him and asked if Melanie and his dad were his parents. He corrected the man, grabbed Anita, and introduced her to him as his mom.

Melanie then began to cry and told him she was insulted that he was going around and introducing an Indian woman as his mom, which she said was not true.

“I know it seems rude to say Anita is my parent and ignore Melanie, but in that context, I wanted Anita to get the credit because she was the college professor, and she helped me with school even more than Dad,” he added.

Since the ceremony, Melanie has been shading him and his dad on Facebook and is still very angry.

Should he feel bad for not introducing Melanie as his mom, or did he do the right thing?
