This woman’s son has a close bond with his cousins. Because of this, she and her sister have family get-togethers as often as they can.

They both take turns hosting the events at each other’s homes.

“My sister and I have incredibly different parenting styles. My husband and I decided to only have one child so we could pour all our love and time into raising him. My sister has five kids and has the same authoritarian parenting style our parents did,” she said.

Over this past weekend, her sister hosted a barbecue.

Her sister served hot dogs to the children while she made steak for the adults.

This is something their parents did at family gatherings.

When their parents hosted events, adults were served fancier meals than the children, and the adults went to places without allowing the children to come with them.

“It made some of us feel bad, so I’ve never done that to my son. It’s important to me that he knows he’s just as worthy of nice things and good meals,” she explained.

Most of the time, her son enjoys the food her sister serves to all of the children, but he despises hot dogs.

She watched as her son took a bit of the hot dog, but after that, he sat in silence as the rest of the children and adults ate their food.

Her son is kind and polite, so he knew he didn’t want to whine about not liking hot dogs. Since she didn’t want her son to be hungry, she discreetly switched her plate with his.

“He nodded at me, and we both just carried on eating without saying anything. My sister’s 6-year-old pointed it out and raised a fuss and said she wanted steak, too,” she shared.

After that, her sister’s four other children were angry and started to whine, and her sister was furious with her.

Her sister said that it was now her responsibility to get her children to calm down because her actions were the reason that her children were so upset.

In response, she suggested that her sister switch plates with her children so that things were fairer; that way, her sister’s children would be happy. Apparently, her sister didn’t like this idea, and the argument continued. All she was doing was making sure her son ate enough so that he wasn’t hungry.

Normally, her son eats a wide variety of foods, but he doesn’t like hot dogs in particular. She acknowledged that she wouldn’t enjoy someone making her eat something she didn’t want to.
