This 17-year-old girl named Sonia grew up with her mother, father, and her sister, Bella, who is two years younger than her.

Sadly, their father wasn’t often absent from their lives.

On multiple occasions, he would leave for several months at a time, never letting them know where he was.

While their father was gone, their mother had to take care of them on her own while working to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

At 12-years-old, Sonia began babysitting so that she could earn some money to help out her mother.

“I’ve been paying for my own expenses and at least a third of the bills and food costs for the entire family ever since,” Sonia said.

Bella had a vastly different childhood than Sonia did.

Rather than getting a job over the summer, Bella took vacations with friends, and their mother has been funding these trips.

In Sonia’s view, Bella has been quite spoiled.

Sonia has a steady job, is the soccer team captain, is also part of the volleyball team, and she’s also graduating from high school a year ahead on a full scholarship to a pretty prestigious university.

Understandably, she was thrilled and wanted to celebrate her success.

She decided to organize a dinner at a restaurant with some of her friends.

When Sonia informed her mother about this idea, her mother said that she should have a party at their house.

Sonia agreed to this, and at first, she was going to organize everything and buy all of the supplies and food she needed.

However, her mother offered to purchase a beautiful cake for the party and send invitations to all of the guests, and she took her mother up on this offer.

After this, issues quickly started to arise.

Bella asked to invite a few friends to the party, too.

Sonia wasn’t thrilled about this because Bella’s friends were rowdy, but when Bella assured her that she would make sure her friends were on their best behavior, she said she would allow it.

The morning of the party, Sonia and her mother set everything up in the house, and she was looking forward to everyone coming over to celebrate her scholarship.

Once the party officially started, nearly double the number of guests she’d been expecting, according to her mother’s estimate, came over, and most of the extra people were Bella’s friends.

Sonia was a little irritated about this, but she did let it go.

Also, she saw that tons of guests had two gifts with them, but she didn’t pay too much attention to this at the time.

A couple of hours into the party, her mother brought the cake out for everyone.

“It was a pretty generic sheet cake with flowers made of frosting, but I was still happy about it. But when I went up and looked at it, the piping on the top read: ‘Congratulations Bella and Sonia. I asked my mom why my sister’s name was on the cake, and she said she thought that I wouldn’t mind making this a joint party to celebrate me graduating a year early and getting that scholarship and my sister graduating middle school,” she explained.

Rightfully, she was furious.

Throughout their entire childhood, Bella has always been jealous of Sonia.

Their mother forbade Sonia from discussing her success around Bella.

During dinner, their mother never asked Sonia about how school or sports were going.

In addition, she was never allowed to hang her report cards on the refrigerator.

On every one of Sonia’s birthdays, Bella always received a gift, too, because she would start crying because she felt left out and couldn’t understand the concept of just one child being celebrated.

This time, Sonia had hoped to have a celebration just for herself and her own success.

After her mother informed her that this party was for both her and Bella, she didn’t yell at her mother.

Instead, she waltzed over to the DJ booth and grabbed the microphone.

While she doesn’t remember what she said word-for-word, she does remember the gist of her speech.

“It was something along the lines of: ‘Hi, everyone. I have just learned that, once again, I am being forced to share the spotlight of my accomplishments with my deadbeat sister, who’s never gotten an A in her life and has failed every sport she’s ever tried. Thanks to Mom over there, I have never had a party be just about me.’ I proceeded to shame my sister and mom for another five minutes before running out of the house, crying,” she shared.

Over the last week, she has been staying with a friend, and her mother sent her a text message saying that she wasn’t allowed at the house.

Since the incident, several of her family members have contacted her to say that she crossed the line and needed to say sorry to her mother and Bella.

Now, she is most likely going to say sorry to them, but she doesn’t know if she really did make a mistake.

Half of her family members, as well as some of her friend group, think her actions were horrible.

Do you think she was wrong for making the speech to shame her mother and sister?
