She’s Pretty Sure Her Boyfriend Dumped Her Because He Hates Her Rich Best Friend

This 23-year-old girl has a 24-year-old best friend named Rosie, and they have been close since they were kids.

Rosie is truly a wonderful human being, and they have spent basically every day together since they first met.

She also happens to be quite close to Rosie’s mom and dad, who are both absolutely lovely and treat her like one of their own.

To be frank, Rosie’s parents are quite rich, and she has always been aware of this, though she didn’t understand how rich they really were until she and Rosie moved in together to attend college.

“At 18, Rosie’s parents gifted her a nice apartment and insisted I move in with Rosie,” she explained.

“I don’t pay rent, and I am incredibly grateful for their generosity. I have thanked them loads, but Rosie always tells me (nicely!) to shut up and not be silly. We moved to Edinburgh, which is a pricy place to live, so if I couldn’t live with Rosie, there is no way I would have been able to study here.”

“When we graduated, Rosie decided to move to London, but I decided to stay here to pursue a master’s degree. Rosie told me to stay in the apartment to look after it, which was good of her. Being separate from each other has been hard, but this summer, I met my boyfriend, Stewart (24M), who is a lovely guy and made me feel better.”

Rosie and Stweart have a ton in common; they are outgoing, extroverted, and passionate. Although Rosie and Stewart hadn’t met in real life until recently, she was positive they would get along great.

A weekend ago, Rosie came back to Edinburgh for the first time in several months so that they could spend Halloween together.

She decided to invite Stewart over last night so that he and Rosie could meet for the first time. She had told them all about the other person, and they did even get to talk over video calls before.

“However, the dinner went terribly, and I worried I might have been in the wrong,” she said. “For the last few days, Stewart has been upset because I’ve been spending all my time with Rosie since she came back.”

“We’ve been texting about it, and I did apologize and explain it’s the first time we’ve seen each other in ages, but when he arrived, I could tell he was a bit grumpy.”

She cooked dinner for the three of them and attempted to keep the conversation flowing, but everything was extremely awkward.

Then, somehow, the topic turned to politics, as Rosie made a joke about missing college but not missing having to battle student protesters to make it to class.

Stewart mentioned that he was in the student union, and Rosie said sorry, as she had no clue and wasn’t trying to offend him.

Stewart still got upset, and he asked her why she had never told Rosie this important detail about him, considering that she tells Rosie everything.

She knows Rosie didn’t mean anything by her comment, and she politely informed Stewart that, politically speaking, he and Rosie actually align on their opinions, but he kept insisting that was not the point.

“Rose said we could move on, and this didn’t have to turn into a big deal, and then Stewart said something along the lines of, “It must be nice to come from a landlord family and not have to care about the world” which then set Rosie off,” she continued.

“They began arguing with each other, and a lot of things were said. Rosie said he didn’t know anything about her life and told him to get lost, so Stewart responded by calling Rosie spoiled. I got angry at him for speaking to Rosie that way and told Stewart off, but then he seemed to get really angry.”

Stewart accused her of treating Rosie more like her partner than him, so she told Stewart he had to leave so they could all cool their jets.

Stewart left, and she thinks he has blocked her, as none of her messages are being delivered to his phone.

So, she’s pretty positive this means Stewart has dumped her, and she’s left wondering if she could have handled that disastrous dinner in a better way.

She thinks Stewart was the one who escalated their evening, and she doesn’t understand how spending a couple of days with her best friend is something to be angry over.

But she does like Stewart a lot, and she’s curious if she should attempt to get a hold of him.

What do you think she should do?
