Earlier this year, this 35-year-old man and his wife, 36, moved from a city to a small town a few states away.

The home they purchased was basically in the center of town. His wife is very extroverted.

Moving away from the city they’d been living in for the last 15 years, and all of their close friends has been a difficult transition for the two of them.

They’ve been able to make some new friends in the town they recently moved to, but they both know it will take a while before they develop stronger friendships.

“Almost as soon as we moved into the house we bought, she entered her nosy neighbor era. She’ll frequently get up to look out a window to watch a car or someone walking down the street,” he said.

“She has nicknames for people who pass by often if we don’t know their names, and she thinks she knows their routines (‘Ooh, Captain Cargo Shorts is a little late for his morning walk today’).”

They’ve met all of their close neighbors and exchanged pleasantries whenever they saw them out and about.

His wife has learned a ton of information about their neighbors because she constantly Googles them and snoops on their social media.

When he and his wife go for walks, she fills him in on their neighbors’ lives as if they’re their close friends, despite the fact that they hardly know them, and the only reason she knows any of this information is that she’s stalking them.

He wasn’t too shocked when his wife started behaving this way.

“She wasn’t really like this when we were living together in the city, but the signs were there. Also, my wife and I both grew up in small towns. Whenever we’d visit her family, she would talk for hours with them about the latest updates on seemingly everyone who lived there. It doesn’t really bother me, but I get some secondhand embarrassment. I tease her about her nosiness a lot, and she’ll joke around with me, too,” he explained.

He would have more of an issue with his wife’s behavior if she was critical or judging their neighbors, but she only snoops because she’s curious about them.

While he acknowledged that she seems to be invading their neighbors’ boundaries, he doesn’t think it’s a huge problem or anything.

Several months ago, their next-door neighbors were hosting a party during the day.

As the party was going on, his wife spent the day in the backyard pretending to garden so that she could snoop.

She also went on two walks with their dog so that she could walk past their neighbors’ house, despite the fact that they usually walk in the opposite direction when they go on walks.

Each time his wife came back into the house, she’d update him on what the neighbors were doing completely unprompted. Through her creeping, she deduced that the party was possibly to celebrate a niece’s or nephew’s birthday.

Later that same day, he walked out to the car because he had some errands to run.

He and his wife share a fence with their neighbors, and his neighbor was cleaning the yard on his side of the fence.

Before he got in the car to leave, he and his neighbor were chatting a bit. His neighbor asked how his and his wife’s day was going, and he asked his neighbor how the party was going.

“At one point, he said something like, ‘You know, if your wife wants to join us next time, all she has to do is ask! No need for all the dog-walking to find out what’s going on,’ with a smile and a wink. I kind of laughed while dying slightly on the inside and said, ‘My dog just had some extra energy today, but that is something my wife would do! I’ll let her know, though,'” he shared.

Once he finished his errands and came home, he told his wife about the conversation with their neighbor, and she was horrified.

At first, she was embarrassed because they’d caught on to her snooping, but then she told him that he should have denied that she was spying on them, and she was angry with him for essentially affirming to their neighbor that she’s been snooping.

In his view, he thinks he reacted in the best way he could, and he told her that if she didn’t want their neighbors to think she was a snoop, she could just not be a snoop.

What would you have done if you were in his shoes?
