These days, more people recognize that age gaps aren’t a big deal regarding relationships. Ladies, at the end of the day, if you and your boyfriend or husband are happy together and maintain a healthy relationship, it doesn’t matter as much how far apart you are in age.

However, it’s no secret that age gaps present their unique challenges in a relationship. If you’ve never been in an age-gap relationship before, it’s best to have an idea of what those challenges are before entering one.

This is especially true if you’re a woman dating a younger man, as when you’re dating someone younger than you and who has less life experience than you, you may get blindsided by certain difficulties that pop up.

If you recently met a man a few years younger than you and are interested in forming a relationship with him, here are some things to expect and consider beforehand.

He may be very adventurous.

Young men, especially those in their 20s, can be very adventurous. After all, that time in a person’s life is a time of exploration and fun, so if you want to be a part of a younger guy’s life, you should be ready for some adventurous experiences.

If you’re not open to traveling, late nights, or any other activities that come with dating an adventurous person, dating a younger guy might not be for you.

His priorities will likely be different from yours.

This is one of the biggest things that come between age-gap couples – priorities. For instance, as an older woman, your biggest priority may be settling down and finding a man to marry and start a family within the next few years.

But a younger guy’s priority may be stepping up his career game or seeing the world. You must brace yourself for the possibility that your man may have different values than you if he’s younger.

He may not be ready to commit to you.

While some young guys out there are interested in finding a woman who is ‘wife-material’ right away, many young guys are hesitant to commit to someone, especially an older woman. Each guy has his reasons for not wanting to commit, but many fear they’ll be “tied down” while they still have their life to live.

If you’re okay with waiting a while for a younger guy to commit to you and keeping things more casual, then this shouldn’t bother you too much.

He’ll have less experience.

One of the most obvious things that will pop up when dating a younger guy is his lack of life and relationship experience. On the one hand, this can be seen as a negative, as he’ll likely make many mistakes throughout your relationship because he has more to learn.

On the other hand, because he won’t have as much experience, he may have less baggage. Older men may have a lot of exes or even children that influence how they are in a relationship, but you don’t have to worry about that with most younger guys.

Your friends and family may find your relationship strange.

When dating someone younger than you, your friends and family may make some harsh judgments. This is the case for any kind of age-gap relationship. So, if you really want to be with a younger guy, you might want to make sure you can accept the notion that your loved ones may not initially approve of your relationship. It may take some time and effort for them to warm up.

Again, many people see age as just a number and no perfect formula or age gap guarantees a long-lasting, happy relationship. But as long as you open yourself up to adventure and all possibilities and accept that things may not go perfectly, you’ll be okay.
