Have you ever been to a party that ended in some kind of tussle or physical violence? A man had to cut off his toxic mother-in-law after she tried to physically attack his wife at their kids’ birthday party.

He is 32 and has three young children with his 28-year-old wife. His two youngest kids have birthdays close together, so last year, they hosted a joint birthday party for them at his wife’s grandmother’s house, as she was too sick to go anywhere else.

Little did they know it would be one of the most chaotic parties they’ve ever attended.

His mother-in-law has always been quite a complicated woman, and at the time of the party, there was a lot of tension surrounding her because people were disappointed in her boyfriend, who is 12 years younger than her and is a “bum” with no job.

Then, on the day of his kids’ party, his mother-in-law was out of control and crossed many boundaries.

Everything was going well until his three-year-old daughter fell down a few times due to her excitement, and for some reason, that bothered his mother-in-law, so she tossed her inside the house.

“My parents, seeing this, rushed over to help her and dry her tears,” he said.

“My mother then told me what happened, and I promised to handle it. As I came out, she was then spanking our 2-year-old daughter.”

This was an awful sight, as he had no idea what his 2-year-old could’ve done to deserve a spanking. Additionally, his 2-year-old has Autism and doesn’t react well to that kind of punishment at all.

He quickly ushered both daughters to a safe place before confronting his mother-in-law, who told him his 2-year-old was running around and “breaking things” and needed to learn her lesson.

He told her he’d replace whatever was broken, but his mother-in-law went on a rant about how she knew more about raising a special needs child than he and his wife.

Frustrated, he went to his wife and told her to help him gather their kids and get ready to head out since the party was dying down anyway. Unfortunately, his mother-in-law wouldn’t drop her attitude and followed him around to continue arguing.

His wife began chiming in, defending him, which made her mom even more angry. As the three of them continued to argue, his wife’s grandmother pleaded for them to stop, reminding them it was supposed to be a happy occasion.

Things got worse when his mother-in-law’s younger boyfriend arrived at the party and immediately started giving everyone his two cents on the matter.

“Upset, [my wife’s] grandmother demanded he leave the house as she couldn’t stand him,” he recalled.

“It was then my mother-in-law tried to tell us he had nowhere to go, and my wife, always having grandmother’s back, proceeded to tell him off, letting out years of pent-up emotions. This set my mother-in-law off.”

Before he knew it, his mother-in-law began trying to physically attack his wife while she was holding their infant son. He immediately intervened, taking his mother-in-law’s blows and not fighting back, as he didn’t want to hit a woman or make things worse.

His mother-in-law was ruthless, trying to hit him and his wife with a garbage can and throwing dishes. Finally, another relative stepped in, held her back, and he and his wife were able to leave.

It’s been a year since that incident, and he nor his wife have interacted with her mom since. But, several of her relatives have begged them to forgive her and let it go.

“My wife and I refuse to, as we both grew up exposed to violence and want better for our own children,” he added.

“We agreed that anyone who has presented themselves as a danger to our children will not be around them. She is not the only person we have cut off, and we refuse to compromise our children’s safety.”

He and his wife are still getting a lot of grief from relatives who believe that because his mother-in-law is family, she should immediately be forgiven. Still, they’re standing their ground.

Is he right to cut off his mother-in-law, or should he consider forgiving her?
