Back in 2021, TikToker Gianna Jones (@giannajones30) and her husband got married. They went to the town of Portage, Indiana, for their honeymoon for a week.
They went to Porter Beach and spent nearly every day there. On the third day, it looked like a big storm was rolling in. The sky turned purple and pink, and a bunch of people were taking pictures of the sight.
People were even in the water. The waves in Lake Michigan were huge that day. When night fell, Gianna and her husband went back to their truck to grab some drinks.
But when they got out of the truck, everyone else was gone. Her husband pointed the truck’s headlights at the water and saw that it was empty.
Out of nowhere, a man walked onto the beach. He was wearing a black windbreaker and khaki shorts. He was barefoot and walked past them with a smile on his face. He said to them, “Beautiful night, isn’t it?”
Gianna and her husband looked at each other. They were both thinking about how weird the interaction was. When they turned around to look at the man, he was gone.
They kept scanning the area, but no one was there. They started talking again, but then Gianna turned and looked at the water. There was something about eight to 10 feet tall standing in the water.
The waves were crashing over it, and the eyes had a greenish-yellow glow. Gianna’s husband thought it was a buoy and inched a little closer to the water.
She shouted at him to get in the truck and go. So, they hopped in the truck and sped off toward the street. The moment they rounded the bend, the truck began sputtering, and the lights were flickering.

However, they knew that nothing was wrong with the truck because they got it serviced before their honeymoon. Once they reached the main road, the truck went back to normal. They talked about how scared they were and then realized they were hungry.
So, they went to a restaurant and told the server they were on their honeymoon. The server gave them free margaritas. They proceeded to tell him about what they had just experienced.
He went to the back to get their food. On his way, the manager came out and told him that there was a phone call for him.
The manager asked Gianna and her husband to retell their story. After they were done, the manager comped their whole meal, which was about $130.
She then instructed them never to tell this story to anyone again. Now, Gianna is fully convinced that something strange is lurking in Lake Michigan. Every year, she and her husband still go back to Porter Beach, but they always leave before nightfall.
The comments section filled up fast with other stories about Lake Michigan, from the mildly eerie to full-on supernatural.
“I’ve always had icky vibes about Lake Michigan, and I’ve always lived near it. Something about that water is off, and there’s something wicked about it,” stated one user.
“While it isn’t in that area, they do say that Lake Michigan does have its own version of the Bermuda Triangle, where ships and planes mysteriously disappear, so weird stuff happening elsewhere in her waters isn’t surprising to me. The points of the Lake Michigan Triangle are Ludington and Benton Harbor in Michigan and Manitowoc in Wisconsin,” commented another.
“I lived across the street from Lake Michigan twice in my life, and I always said those waters are magical. I’ve seen ghost boats, heard people that weren’t there,” added a third.
