We’ve all heard someone complain about a crying baby on a plane before. But does it actually matter what seating class the noise is coming from?

This woman recently traveled abroad with her 9-month-old child and got told off for flying business class with an infant. In her opinion, though, the idea of being sequestered to economy just because she has a kid is ridiculous.

To give you a bit of backstory, she had to fly from New York City to Zurich, Switzerland, on a red-eye flight. And since she happened to have some travel rewards points to burn, she took advantage of them.

“I booked a business class lay flat so both of us would be able to get some sleep,” she recalled.

“I got on the flight and unloaded us. My baby was chilling, just looking around.”

However, a lady eventually walked up to take the seat beside her, and she clearly heard the lady exclaim, “Are you kidding me?” But she didn’t respond, and the flight took off as usual. Plus, her baby even slept for the first few hours of the trip!

It wasn’t until the three-hour mark that her child became hungry, woke up, and began crying. And she didn’t let the sobs go on long, either.

“I immediately sat up and went to make her a bottle. She was crying for a total of, I don’t know, two minutes?” she explained.

Well, the lady sitting beside her, who’d been asleep, still proceeded to jump out of her seat, flip her the bird, and confront a flight attendant, loudly claiming that she needed to be moved to economy!

Then, the lady came back to the seat and directly told her that babies don’t “belong” in business class. Moreover, if she wasn’t able to “control her infant,” then she shouldn’t fly in that section of the plane.

In response, she said she was doing her best and even told the lady to mind her own business.

“And if she didn’t want the roulette of who she sat next to on a commercial flight, she could fly private,” she added.

Thankfully, the lady put on some headphones after that and didn’t speak to her for the rest of their trip. Yet, when she shared the whole situation with her mother-in-law later, she was shocked that her mother-in-law agreed with the lady!

According to her mother-in-law, there’s an “unspoken rule” that babies should only fly economy, not in business class.

“I think this is absurd? Why should I be in economy if I don’t have to be just because I have a baby? That seems insane to me,” she vented.

Nonetheless, both the lady’s and her mother-in-law’s opinions have left her questioning whether flying business class with her baby really was a jerky move.

Should there be an age requirement to fly business class, or should anyone be allowed to sit there if they can afford it? How would you have handled the lady if you were in her shoes?
