A couple of years ago, someone named Andy came across some memorabilia that his grandfather brought home from World War II. His grandfather had passed away, so he was cleaning out his house.
Up in the attic, there was a plastic bin the size of a laundry basket with handles on the side. When Andy opened it up, he found it filled with WW2 memorabilia, including his grandpa’s uniform, pictures, and letters.
No one else in the family wanted it, so Andy decided to take it home.
That night, he set the contents of the bin on his coffee table so he could take a closer look at everything. There was a single boot in the box, and when Andy picked it up, he felt it vibrating. He assumed that a mouse had probably made the boot its home, so he took it outside and gently turned the boot upside down.
No mouse appeared. Instead, a white cloth tumbled out and fell to the ground. When Andy unwrapped the cloth, he discovered a ring with a skull in the middle of it and strange markings on the sides.
As he examined the ring, he began to feel intensely ill. He actually had to vomit over the side of his back patio. He thought that he was just really stressed out from the long day, so he went inside and put the ring back in the boot.
“That night, he says he had the most terrible dreams that he’s ever had,” said Kelsea. “He dreams about war, and this room with pillars in it and mountains and violence, and it’s just awful.”
The next day, he woke up drenched in sweat. He packed all his grandpa’s stuff back into the box and put it in a closet. He put the ring in a coin dish on the entryway table and forgot about it.

A couple of weeks later, Andy picked up the ring again and started fidgeting with it. He put the ring on, and when he did, it felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. He couldn’t hear or feel anything. He immediately ripped the ring off, and everything returned to normal.
He tossed the ring back into the dish and left it there. He went to the doctor, thinking that he had had some sort of medical episode, but the doctor determined that he was perfectly healthy.
After putting the ring on, the nightmares became more frequent. He was exhausted but couldn’t sleep until his body just gave out. This went on for a few more months.
One night, Andy invited his friends over. One of his friends was a history teacher, so he brought out his grandpa’s WW2 stuff to show them. He brought the ring over to his friend and told him that it had been tucked in the toe of a single boot.
“His friend goes on to tell him that it looked like something called an SS Honor ring,” said Kelsea.
“These rings were basically this cult-like thing that Nazis would give to their high-ranking officials. They weren’t a military award per se. They were more like a personal keepsake from this guy named Himmler.”
If any members fell in battle, Himmler wanted the rings returned to him so he could place them on an altar and trap their souls within his castle.
According to Andy’s friend, these rings were extremely rare, so it was highly likely that this was just a reproduction. Around 9,000 of them were buried in a mountain, and about a couple of hundred made it back to the United States.
Feeling reassured, Andy tossed the ring back into the dish and forgot about it. The nightmares continued, but no doctor was able to help him.
A friend referred him to a witch doctor, so Andy decided to give it a try. He told the woman that he had been experiencing terrible nightmares. The woman declared that something dark was attached to him.
Andy told her all about the ring. She instructed him to put it in water to wash away the bad energy. So, Andy took his boat out onto the water, pulled the ring out of his pocket, and threw it as far as he could.
Once the ring plopped into the water, he felt lighter and at ease for the first time in a while. That night, he slept soundly. He wonders why his grandfather kept the ring for so long, but he is also just happy that he is no longer affected by it.
