Hot on the heel’s of Google’s announcement at Google I/O that they will be releasing a HoneyComb 3.1 update, Motorola has announced that they will be updating their XOOM tablet with Honeycomb 3.1 this week. That makes the XOOM the first tablet to recieve the 3.1 update. The update will become available to Motorola XOOM users on Verizon Wireless via an over-the-air update.
This update will bring support for the new Android Market movie rentals service which should take great advantage of the device’s ability to connect to a TV display via HDMI. It also brings full support for Adobe Flash player 10.2., resizable widgets to enable further customization of home screens, support for USB-connected peripherals and accessories like keyboards and mice, and a new Picture Transfer Protocol Feature support to enable easier transfer of photo files to your PC without requiring any drivers. In addition the update adds expanded Bluetooth features to support Bluetooth headsets in Google Talk video chats. But besides for adding all of these new features, our hope is that the update also irons out some of the bugginess we experienced with Honeycomb while we were reviewing the Motorola XOOM.
Motorola XOOM users who aren’t using the tablet on Verizon Wireless but just have the Wi-fi model, or other variants, will be receiving the 3.1 update over the next several weeks.
