Sony’s first LTE-compatible smartphone is going to available soon at AT&T stores, and it’s going to be landing with a pretty decent asking price. For $99, you can pick up a Sony Xperia ion from AT&T stores after June 24th along with a two-year contract.
In addition to being 4G-friendly, the Xperia ion boasts some proprietary Sony tech that could make it pretty attractive compared to other high-end Android phones, especially considering the price point. The 4.6” 720p HD Reality Display is supported by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA engine, while the 12 MP rear-facing camera is boosted by Sony’s Exmor R for Mobile camera sensor. The latter will allow for 1080p HD recording, while the front-facing camera is capable of recording 720p HD video.
The Xperia ion will be running on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, but will only be shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. For those who can wait, an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia ion is planned for later this year. There will be 16 GB of on-board memory, while a microSD card slot supports up to 32 GB of storage.
The Sony Xperia ion will go on sale at AT&T stores across the United States on June 24th for $99 with a two-year contract.
