Toshiba is one step ahead of most in the Ultrabook game right now, and they’re showing it with their new Satellite and Portégé Ultrabooks, all of which feature 3rd generation Intel Core processors and impressive media-playing chops.
The Satellite U845 is less than an inch thick, and weighs about four pounds. It has a 14” HD 1366 x 768 TruBrite display and stereo speakers with SRS Premium Sound 3D. The Ultrabook has a USB 3.0 port that features Sleep & Charge technology, as well as two USB 2.0 ports. 6 GB of DDR3 memory and an HDMI out port round out the specs.
The Satellite U845W adds onto the model described above, making it the true powerhouse of Toshiba’s Ultrabooks. The U845W will pack in 8 GB of DDR3 memory and 3 USB 3.0 ports, and will feature harmon/kardon speakers along with that SRS Premium Sound 3D technology. The display is the biggest upgrade, though – a 14.4-inch diagonal ultrawide-HD TruBrite display with a 1792 x 768 resolution. The display has an aspect ratio of 21:9, which, according to Toshiba, is tailored to create an enhanced cinematic experience for movie buffs. The body is made from machined aluminum, and features a soft-touch trim.
The Portégé Z935 is incredibly small and lightweight (.63 inches thick, less than 2.5 pounds), but still manages to pack in a solid state drive, an Intel 3rd generation Core processor, and a battery life exceeding eight hours. The body is made from lightweight, durable magnesium, and features a Honeycomb Rib design that provides shock absorption. That will be much appreciated by owners of what would otherwise be a very fragile Ultrabook indeed.
The Toshiba Satellite U845W will be available on July 15th, with a base price of $999.99. The Toshiba Satellite U845 and Portégé Z935 will both be available on June 24th, and will start at $749.99 and $899.99, respectively.
