The Avengers Show Some Skin in Burlesque Revue

Johnny Angel saving the Pink Widow

First, the Avengers started off as a comic book, then just recently they became a hit movie, and now its latest incarnation is a burlesque show?! Yes, those men and ladies in their fanciful tights have earned themselves a campy burlesque revue in New York City. This new show features Wonder Women, the Penguin, Supergirl, Pink Widow (the black widow’s cousin obviously), the Hulk and others. And while the show isn’t entirely an authentic Avengers send-up (it’s a very loose interpretation at best), its risqué humor, performance, and overall presentation of this genre would make any comic book geek’s heart go aflutter.

At the heart of the show is an evil villain bent on impregnating every woman on earth. True to form, the day is saved by a superhero, and the evil villain is banished… for now.

The heart and soul that the Hotsy Totsy Burlesque troupe brought to the show was truly engaging. While it is for adults only, the revue is well worth the close to two hours of performance art, music, tongue and cheek humor, all while feeding that cold geek heart of yours. The atmosphere was lively with ample seating and great views of the stage. In the end, performers are there to give the audience a great time all for $10!

If you happen to be in New York City September 18th or October 16th, Check out the R Bar, where the Hotsy Totsy Burlesque troupe will be presenting Dr. Who in September and Vampire Hunter in October. We have already been told that the Dr. Who show will be very theme based and loads of fun. However, I’m not sure I will ever be able to look at a Tardis or Dalek the same way afterwards…
