Well, if you thought there wasn’t going to be any merchandise coming out of the marriage between Angry Birds and Star Wars - actually, no. There’s no way anyone, anywhere thought that.
Here, we have the all-time leading cash cow of a franchise and the its spiritual successor from today – nothing’s better at making money on the side than Star Wars and Angry Birds. Some of the inevitable merchandise you can expect to see this year will be – no surprise – more Angry Birds board games.
The Star Destroyer Battle Game gives you the blocks and instructions needed to build the eponymous Imperial death machine, complete with 12 Angry Birds minifigures, a TRIPLE lightsaber launcher (whoaaaa), and the destruction and mayhem that comes with any Angry Birds product. The Tie Fighter Battle Game is similar, and features R2-D2, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker Angry Birds minifigures. Seriously, this has to be the ultimate merchandise crossover. What possibly tops this?
There’s also the Rise of Darth Vader game, where you launch Jedi Angry Birds at Sith Pigs perched atop a structure in the shape of Darth Vader’s mask. This one and the Tie Fighter Battle Game also have Jenga in the product title, which seems appropriate enough.
All of the above feature special codes that unlock in-app content for Angry Birds Star Wars. By the way, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Hasbro is making a total of 17 new Angry Birds Star Wars toys and games, all of which will go on sale this year. Then, keep in mind that this is just one of the first waves of Angry Birds Star Wars merchandise. Prepare yourself.
The Star Destroyer Battle Game, the Rise of Darth Vader Game, and the Tie Fighter Battle Game will sell for $40, $30, and $25, respectively. They’ll all be hitting stores sometime during the fall of this year.
