The invitation, which says “Come See Our New Home on Android,” is thought by some to indicate that a new phone made in part by Facebook is in the works. The prevailing winds suggest that the phone will be manufactured by HTC and run Android, with a skin like Samsung’s TouchWiz or HTC’s Sense slapped on, which would be made by Facebook. That skin would likely feature Facebook updates on the home screen, and total Facebook integration. I’m not sure what else a Facebook phone could offer that you can’t do with a regular smartphone, but I guess we’ll find out (or not) on April 4.
This time, the reports come from “people familiar with the development of the marketing campaign” and “sources.” The former are saying that the phone will be sold largely on brand name, with one tagline being “more than just an app.” “Sources” say that it will be a 4.3” phone made by HTC, with a 1.5 GHz processor, 16 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, a physical home button, and capacitive buttons to the left and right of that home button. Neither of the two groups mentioned above have great track records with Facebook Phone rumors, so this will be a believe it when we see it kind of deal. For now, we’ll be biding our time until next Thursday.
