STM Nomad Shoulder Laptop Bag Review

More than a messenger bag, STM’s Nomad Shoulder Bag lives up to its name, enabling you to be nomadic with just one bag. Looking in this bag is like looking into the T.A.R.D.I.S. It seems much bigger on the inside with pockets upon pockets. It comes with a sturdy and very attractive laptop sleeve that slips perfectly in place into the bag and is easily accessed through a zipper instead of just the usual access point, the flap. The shoulder strap is very customizable and has a cushioned shoulder pad. This water resistant bag holds up great.

Although this bag comes in three colors, gray, orange, and blue, we chose to test out the blue. It is a soft robin’s egg blue that is easy on the eyes. The main material is a water resistant santori, which means that you can dash through a spat of rain with it, but not let it sit in a puddle. Incidental moisture slicks off it. This medium bag seems more like a large at 13.4 vertrical inches, 16.9” horizontal. Although it says it fits most 15” laptops, I was able to very comfortable fit my 17” Macbook with a shell on into both the sleeve and the bag, with no problems at all. There is definitely some wiggle room here. Once weighed down with all the items, the bag was surprisingly very comfortable. The adjustable straps let me get the weight distribution just right. If you want to sling it behind you, messenger style, then the two metal clips at the bottom secure the fold-over flap so that nothing bounces out. With all that cushion and protection the laptop is very secure.

Pockets abound. There is plenty of room here to add in a laptop + sleeve, and then some. In addition to the laptop compartment is another compartment that easily could accommodate quite a few books, and a couple sets of clothes. The interior portion also houses a pocket space for an iPad, lined with soft nylex. Just outside of that, on the exterior, is two sets of dual pockets, with more pockets. This easily fits an iPad mini, smartphone, headphones, cords, pencils, lipstick, or even a makeup collection and toothbrush, to complete an overnight stay’s needs. The flap has yet another deep, vast pocket with lots of space and more pockets! Quick access items go really well here, IDs, passport, magazines, sunglasses etc.

This is an ideal carry-on shoulder bag. It is highly customizable, has tons of space and pockets. The organization is superb, all the while maintaining an appealing form without getting weighed down into a bulky sagging blob. The structure is enough to keep everything in place, while still allowing for plenty of cargo. One could easily sling this across the back for a bike ride, or wear it on the shoulder while moving through airport security and on to your destination. The Nomad from STM comes in at just $120, which is a pretty decent price for such a well-constructed, large bag, that includes a high end laptop sleeve.

The Good: Comfortable, tons of space, and lots of customization

The Bad: It could use a cute design on the exterior, to spice it up a bit.
