When the adults get behind the wheel of their new Ford F-150, kids will be able to do the same—Power Wheels and Ford are releasing an official ride-on version of the F-150 and, like the real thing, it means business.
The pint-sized F-150 runs on a 12-volt battery and, yes, it can absolutely go off-road. Thanks to rugged wheels and the Monster Traction drive system, the truck can roll over any surfaces from wet grass to bumpy gravel. And, maybe it’s not real chrome on the wheels and grill, but hopefully the little ones are still too young to notice. An FM radio is also tucked away inside, and there’s a headphone jack in case the kids want to grab a smartphone and cruise around while listening to Raffi or whatever it is little kids listen to these days. Oh, and needless to say, there will be sound effects.
The testing for this truck might not be at the same level as the real thing, but it definitely had to pass muster before being shipped out. Power Wheels puts their trucks through a series of grueling tests, including tens of thousands of bumps, an incline test to make sure the truck doesn’t tip over when going up or down hills, and rapid switching of the transmission between forward and reverse thousands of times—you know, something a five-year-old might actually do.
The Power Wheels F-150 will be rolling off the lot in September for $350, but you can pre-order as of today. A blue truck and a purple truck are available now, with black and silver/red versions still to come.
