David Tennant Will Voice Scrooge McDuck, Helps Sing the Theme Song

That’s Doctor Uncle Scrooge McDuck to you. Former Doctor Who star David Tennant is officially coming back to television, with the revelation that he’ll be voicing Scrooge McDuck in the new DuckTales cartoon set to premiere on Disney XD sometime next summer.

From the announcement of the reboot last February to the first teaser a couple weeks ago, all we’d known about the new show was that summer 2017 target and that all the major characters — Scrooge, the nephews, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, the Beagle Boys, and Webby Vanderquack — would return in a hand-drawn art style that hearkens back to the original series.

Late last week, Disney made quite the casting announcement, putting up a video of the new cast singing the DuckTales theme. In addition to revealing Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, the video has Huey, Louie, and Dewey being voiced by Danny Pudi, Bobby Moynihan, and Ben Schwartz, Launchpad McQuack voiced by Beck Bennett, and Webby Vanderquack voiced by Kate Micucci. Toks Olagundoye is in there as Mrs. Beakley.

Whatever happens with the reboot, we can rest assured that Disney isn’t going for the cheap nostalgia play here. They’re putting the money and talent into making this a proper DuckTales comeback. Really, the only question we have is whether or not Scrooge McDuck would have actually approved of spending all that money on Tennant! We’re pretty sure he could’ve been talked into it.
