Hasbro is delivering on a two-year promise to collectors at Toy Fair this weekend, and they’re doing it in the biggest way possible. For the first time since the original toy was released in the ’80s, Trypticon is coming, and Hasbro says he’s the biggest Decepticon model they’ve ever made.
The story behind this toy dates back to 2015, when Hasbro asked fans to vote on which Decepticon they wanted next in the collector-focused Generations Titans Return line. Trypticon, the city-sized Decepticon superweapon (only Brad Garrett had enough bass to voice him in the cartoon) rolled through Omega Supreme and Scorponok in that vote, putting him in line for a 2017 release. Well, it’s now 2017, and Hasbro wouldn’t want to let Trypticon down, now would they?
The Titans Return Trypticon toy is, first and foremost, a Transformer. The t-rex can become a spaceship and a Decepticon city. Trypticon will also come with a Deluxe Class Full-Tilt figure and a Titan Master Decepticon Necro figure, both of which are pretty much there to demonstrate how massive this toy is. Trypticon can actually eat the smaller Titan Master figures, and has a stomach that opens up so you can fish them out. We’re not sure exactly how big Trypticon is, but in t-rex form, he looks nearly two feet tall.
While Hasbro hasn’t strayed far from the original toy’s design, they’ve made the new Trypticon much more finely detailed, making it an exciting prospect for the Transformers faithful. The big guy will launch his assault on toy stores and wallets this fall, armed with a $150 price tag.
