Australia gets some pretty solid Kit Kat bars, but we all know where the real hub of Kit Kat innovation is. The land of a hundred Kit Kat flavors, Japan has long led the way in experimental chocolate, and that’s never been more true than this year. Dare we say it, their latest Kit Kat is revolutionary.
The latest creation is a cake-stuffed Kit Kat bar that can only be found at one location in Tokyo. The Gateau Mignon Kit Kat is exclusive to the Ginza Kit Kat Chocolatory in Tokyo, and it looks pretty amazing. We’re already starting off by using two fancy French words, and it only gets better from there. Gateau, better known as spongy layer cake, has been stuffed into the middle of a Kit Kat shell, combining Kit Kat crispness with cake moistness and fluffiness.
It’s one of the latest creations to hit Japan’s Kit Kat Chocolotaries, which are well known for pushing the humble Kit Kat to greater and greater heights. Of course, the downside is that this specialty treat isn’t going anywhere. It’s the creation of patissier Yasumasa Takagi, who spent over a year developing it — it’s more akin to a super fancy menu item at a four dollar sign restaurant than something you’ll find in the checkout aisle at Target. Suffice it to say if you want one, you’d best get to Tokyo while Takagi is still making them.
