The Enterprise Space Shuttle Lands at the Intrepid Sea, Air, Space Museum

As a child,  it was a tradition in my school to go to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum every year on a school trip. So as an adult, I never had any desire to go back, since I had seen it all. Well it looks like I may have to go and take a trip down memory lane, because something fantastic is coming to the Intrepid- a Space Shuttle! Yes the new home for the Enterprise (OV-101) will be the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. The shuttle itself never saw space but was used in NASA tests – just as good I guess. The museum has been petitioning for quite a while to get a hold of the old girl and they have succeeded. A special exhibit will be constructed to show off which is displayed in the renderings below.

The Enterprise isn’t the only Space Shuttle getting a new home, there are a few others getting a final resting place too!

*The Discovery which took its last flight, last month will be heading to the Smithsonian.

*The Endeavour, once finished on its current tour of duty will head to the California Science Center.

*Lastly, the Atlantis, which has a trip slated in June, will head to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor complex.

Many of these institutions will have to pony up costs to put their new exhibit on display as well as the “shipping and handling” fees for bringing the space shuttles to there final destinations. You didn’t expect FedEx to deliver them did you?
