The Simpsons Predicted Lady Gaga’s Halftime Performance Way Back in 2012

Anything that has happened on The Simpsons is a safe bet to actually happen at this point.

It’s probably safe to assume that anyone who’s ever written for The Simpsons is actually a time traveler — hey, it’d help explain how the show has made it 28 seasons and counting. The Simpsons accurately predicting the future is full-on thing now, having called President Trump in 2000, horse meat scandals, and the persistence of Rolling Stones tours. Believe us, that’s just scratching the surface.

Well, after Sunday’s Super Bowl, we can add one more to the list. In a 2012 episode, Lady Gaga guest starred and put on a performance while being attached to the same sort of rig she used to lower herself down from the stadium roof during halftime. As with most Simpsons predictions (besides the dead-on Trump one), it’s not a perfect match (no fireworks bra, alas), but the parallels are there.

Then again, who knows? This one might just be a self-fulfilling prophecy. With Lady Gaga having done the guest work on the show, that episode might just have been the original inspiration for the halftime show. Gaga might have been sitting on this idea for years!

I still like the time travel theory. I’m thinking an Inception-type deal where the writers-from-the-future, knowing the importance of Lady Gaga putting on a bangin’ halftime show in 2017, did this episode in order to make sure that the halftime show actually happened. In 2017, I’m willing to believe just about anything.
