The Internet Reacts To The Tragic Passing Of Kate Spade & Here’s Why We Need To Talk About It

Kate Spade meant something different to everyone. She was arguably one of the most successful women in the fashion industry with a net worth of $150 million dollars. She built an empire, she was one heck of an entrepreneur, and she designed beautiful, whimsical pieces that every woman wanted. She was a household name.

While I was still in design school, I interviewed for a design position at her iconic office and remember being thrilled to see that the office decor was just as exciting and special at that time as her accessories were.

Kate inspired women the world over to “live colorfully,” and work to attain their goals. It didn’t matter if you toted around one of her handbags or aspired to build a design company similar to hers, the company saying still rang true.

“We honor all the beauty she brought into this world,” the Kate Spade company tweeted about her tragic passing. Here are some more reaction from the internet about her sad ending below, and here’s why we need to talk about it.

Kate sadly hung herself. It’s such a heartbreaking thing for someone to commit suicide, and we need to talk about it. Depression, mental health: none of it discriminates. It can happen to absolutely anyone, whether they’re young or old, rich or poor.

We need to discuss mental illness. We need to not make it taboo. We need to strive more to help people that are struggling. By working to understand the factors that tragically contribute to suicide and mental illness we can save lives.

Kate’s death should be a call to action and a reminder to help those that are suffering around you. We all need to be caring, listening, and helping people get the help that they need.
