A Capuchin Monkey Stole A Phone Out Of A Golf Cart And Called 911 From Inside The Zoo
In San Luis Obispo, California, the county sheriff’s office recently responded to a 911 call made by someone they had least suspected to see.
In a statement on Facebook, the sheriff’s office described in detail one of the funniest and cutest stories we’ve ever seen.
“Our Deputies have seen their fair share of ‘monkey business’ in the County,” is written in the statement. “But nothing quite like this.”
On Saturday, August 13th, the office received a 911 call that was eventually disconnected. The dispatchers tried to call and text the number back but were unable to get a response.
Therefore, some deputies from the sheriff’s office had to investigate the mysterious call.
The address from where the call was made led the deputies to the offices of ‘Zoo to You,’ a small zoo and conservation center located near Paso Robles, California.
When the deputies walked in and talked to some of the workers, everyone had no idea who could’ve made the call.
“Was someone trying to make us look like a monkey’s uncle?” is written in the Facebook statement.

As it turns out, there was an actual monkey involved. Yup, the zoo’s resident Capuchin monkey, Route.
Sneaky little Route had stolen one of the zoo’s cellphones that they keep in their golf carts while they travel around their 40-acre property.
Employees at the zoo informed the deputies that Capuchin monkeys are “very inquisitive and will grab anything and everything and just start pushing buttons.”
Of course, out of all the number combinations, Route could’ve pressed, she dialed 911! Along with the written statement on Facebook are pictures of precious Route, who looks adorable but mischievous at the same time.
“As you can tell from these photos, Route is a little embarrassed by the whole thing,” the statement reads. “But you can’t really blame her; after all, monkey see, monkey do.”
We love how the sheriff’s department is embracing this incident with a good laugh! It was probably a day they’ll never forget. Those living near ‘Zoo to You’ can have some pretty amazing experiences there, and perhaps can see Route the monkey in her element!
They offer unique events like their ‘Wild Nights’ at the zoo, where you can sleep under the stars in one of their safari tents.
