Petition To Remove Brett Favre From Pro Football Hall Of Fame Gains Over 20,000 Signatures Following Accusations Of Misusing Welfare Funds
Brett Favre, the celebrated former NFL quarterback, was famous for breaking all of the league’s career passing records while playing for the Green Bay Packers.
Now, though, that legacy has been tainted by allegations of corruption. More specifically, the most extensive case of corruption in the state of Mississippi’s history.
Favre is allegedly tied to the misappropriation of about seventy-seven million dollars that was supposed to go to charity.
Favre has since denied having any knowledge that the funds he used for various personal projects were welfare money.
However, court filings, tax records, and text messages have painted a different picture. Most recently, ESPN and The Athletic obtained tax records which revealed that the football star’s charity, Favre 4 Hope, allocated over one hundred and thirty thousand dollars toward the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation between 2018 and 2020.
Favre 4 Hope was originally launched to aid charities that provide resources and support to breast cancer patients and disabled children.
Additionally, back in 2017, Favre allegedly asked former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant to fund a new volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi– where he was an alumnus, and his daughter played volleyball at the time.
Text messages between Favre and Mississippi Community Education Center (MCEC) founder Nancy Drew regarding this matter were also revealed.
“If you were to pay me, is there any way the media can find out where it came from and how much?” Favre asked.

In her response, Nancy reassured Favre that the public would never find out. Moreover, she informed the former quarterback that Gov. Bryant was also on board.
These findings alone have inundated the former quarterback with public outrage. And now, the allegations are even threatening Favre’s place in the Hall of Fame.
Over twenty thousand community members have since signed a Change.org petition pushing for Favre to be removed from the Hall of Fame.
“Brett Favre committed welfare fraud, defrauding the poorest state in the nation. This crime goes quietly unmentioned as the National Football League and other media outlets want to avoid covering one of their own,” the petition’s organizer, Reginald Jackson, wrote.
“I create this petition as a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. But, at this moment, the residents of the state of Mississippi are more important than one man and his daughter’s legacy with a volleyball stadium.”
Signers across the country have contributed their John Hancock while also voicing disgust toward the former NFL player.
“Accountability should not exclude the rich and famous,” wrote one petitioner, Kimberly Jackson.
“He is a disgrace!” said a second petitioner, Cedric Randle.
‘Thieves should not be honored,” added a third, Ruth Bright.
Still, if Favre can even be removed from the Hall of Fame is undetermined– because in 2020, after the public called for NFL owner George Marshall’s removal, that action was denied.
“Once elected, nothing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s bylaws allows for the removal of a Hall member,” the NFL Hall of Fame said in a statement to NBC Sports.
However, the NFL Hall of Fame has yet to comment on this specific matter involving Favre.
