This 30-year-old woman is currently engaged to be married in June. And about a month ago, she finally sent out all of her wedding invites.

She comes from a pretty big family, mainly because her mother is one of six children. Still, everyone in her family is invited to the event.

Well, except for one of her aunts, who she has a seriously complicated relationship with.

Apparently, when she was younger, she and her aunt were super close. Her aunt took on the “cool aunt” role– acting crazy, unpredictably, and essentially allowing her to do or buy anything she wanted.

As she grew up, though, it became clear that her parents probably should not have entrusted her aunt with the care of kids. According to her, this is because her aunt is a compulsive liar who will do anything for attention.

When she was in high school, for instance, her aunt pretended to take her on a weekend trip to California but really just wound up kidnapping her. Her aunt even held her for ransom against her parents!

Then, in college, she decided to give her aunt a second chance. But that just got her hurt again.

“[My aunt] kicked me out onto the street, leading to me being homeless for over a month in a state where I had no family besides her to turn to for help,” she recalled.

“For me, that was my last straw.”

Even after she gave up on her aunt, though, the antics did not stop. Instead, her aunt tried to pull the same behavior on her other 10 cousins.

Each time, she claimed it was the same cycle, too. Her aunt would try to act cool before eventually overstepping boundaries, getting people mad, and acting defensive. Then, her aunt would always do something crazy.

This even led one of her uncles to get a restraining order against her aunt– meaning that her aunt is no longer allowed near any of his children.

Regardless of that, her aunt obviously found out about her wedding– and the fact that she wasn’t invited. So, earlier this week, her aunt called her mom and first tried to “really butter” her mom up using a sob story.

Then, at the end of the conversation, her aunt started begging for an invitation to her wedding. At that point, her mom claimed her aunt would just have to speak with her directly. After all, it is her wedding.

Rather than understanding that, though, her aunt asked if her parents were paying and insinuated that if so, they should be able to invite whomever they wanted.

But, her mom ultimately revealed how she and her fiancé are actually paying for the wedding completely by themselves– which is something she is seriously proud of.

“And [my aunt] was flabbergasted, to say the least. She thought my parents paying for it would be her ticket in if she could guilt trip them enough,” she recalled.

Still, the drama was far from over after the phone call ended. Instead, her mom ended up summarizing what happened to her while her dad was in the room, and her dad got involved.

First, her dad insisted that just not inviting her aunt would not work because her aunt would just show up and act as though she was invited.

She refused to stand for that kind of behavior, though, and told her dad that if her aunt did that, she would have her aunt promptly escorted off the property. She really just does not want her aunt there, and her fiancé completely supports her decision.

Plus, her uncle, who has the restraining order, will be at the wedding with his kids. So, technically, her aunt cannot legally attend the wedding, either.

Despite all of these valid points, though, her dad still said that she should “take the higher ground.”

“It will ruin your day if you let her get to you. Just let her do her thing. You should ignore her and enjoy your day,” her dad told her.

Quite frankly, though, she believes that having an unwanted guest at her wedding will ruin her day. And she told her dad that, too.

Still, her dad just kept going– claiming that not inviting her aunt would be in bad taste and saying that her aunt is family. Anyway, she and her dad wound up going back and forth about her aunt for about 15 minutes. Then, by the time her dad left, they were still disagreeing.

Her dad believes that by not taking the high ground and letting her aunt stay at the wedding, she would be a jerk. And now, his perspective has made her seriously start questioning her boundaries.

So, she has been left wondering whether refusing to invite her aunt to her wedding is actually the wrong thing to do or not.

Can you believe anyone in her family is still speaking to her aunt after everything her aunt has done? Does she have a right not to want her aunt at her wedding? If you were in her shoes, would you listen to your dad or go with your gut?
