His Girlfriend Dumped Him And Accused Him Of Being Cheap Because He Earns More Yet Never Treated Her Or Covered The Full Tab During Their Outings

For three months, this man has been in a relationship with a girl who lives an hour away from him.
While he was under the assumption that everything was wonderful, she broke up with him a couple of days ago.
“She said that she didn’t want to be in a relationship where she never gets treated or where it’s 100% reciprocal. She said I came across as cheap, and she felt now was a good time to end it,” he said.
Since he never viewed himself to be the way she described him, he was stunned by her reason for dumping him.
He never believed that she was using him, and they always split the bill when they went on dinner dates or out for drinks.
Sometimes, they bought food to go, and when they did this, he would pay for their food one week, and she would buy it the following week.
“When we did activities such as bowling or the cinema, she paid for those things because I drove to her town,” he explained.
The town he lives in is really small and doesn’t have a lot of exciting things to do or sights to see, so he always drives to her town since there are a lot of options for date nights.
He never asked her to pay for dates. She always offered to pay, and he accepted.

In his view, it made sense because he spent a lot of money driving an hour to her town and an hour back home whenever he went to see her.
“She mentioned that I’ve never brought her anything, but we’ve been dating for three months. Why would I? It’s not like she got me stuff–just treats for my dog once,” he shared.
He thinks it’s unfair for him to say that he’s cheap. During the conversation, he told her this. She responded, saying that he made more money than she did, so she doesn’t have the money to pay for both of them on dates all the time.
Then, she added that she cooked him dinner and drove to his town whenever she was able to. After the breakup, he asked his friends for their opinions, and he got a lot of varying perspectives.
About half of his friend group thought he was a jerk, and the other half thought she was just trying to use him.
Others called her hypocritical, and others told him that he should have been doing his best to impress her and put his best foot forward in this new relationship.
However, his entire group of friends were shocked that he’d never paid for both himself and his date whenever they went to dinner during the entire three-month relationship.
From his perspective, he was astonished that this should be an obligation simply because he’s a man. Now, he’s crushed because he had feelings for this woman.
Do you think he was cheap?
