She Went On The Worst Date Of Her Life After College With A Guy Named Kevin, Who Flashed His Wealth, Put On An Entire Karaoke Performance At His Apartment, And Cried When She Wanted To Leave

When TikToker Claire Manship (@womanship) was fresh out of college at 22, she experienced the worst date of her life.

So, after graduating college in the 2010s, she moved to New York. She met a guy named Kevin on a dating app, and he worked in finance.

At first, she was reluctant to go out with Kevin because her brother was also named Kevin, which made things a bit weird.

Ever since she was in middle school, she vowed never to date anyone named Kevin. But this one time, she decided to break her rule, and she ended up deeply regretting it.

It was a Friday night when Kevin took her on a date to a café. During dinner, Kevin made some statements that seemed endearing to her at the time, but she now realizes they were red flags. He told Claire he was impressed by her knowledge of sports and shocked that she was actually an intelligent person.

These two qualities of hers indicated to him that she was “not like other girls.” When the server arrived with the check, Kevin informed her that he always waited until the end of the date to decide whether or not he would treat a girl to dinner. His decision was based on how much the girl had impressed him.

He declared that Claire was worth paying for and pulled out a giant money clip filled with cash. He proceeded to pay for the check using only hundred-dollar bills. That was when Claire started to get the feeling that something about Kevin was a little off.

After paying for dinner, he told her he had a great time and asked if she wanted to see a movie. Claire was not one to turn down a potentially free movie. Plus, the movie theater was right around the corner, so of course, she agreed.

They left the café, turned the corner, and started walking toward the movie theater. As they were standing in front of the theater, Kevin suddenly grabbed her and kissed her face.

When he was done, he forcefully dragged her away from the theater, leading her down the road to the door of his apartment building.

As they entered the building, the doorman greeted Kevin and looked at Claire with an odd expression. Claire got the sense that she was just one of the many girls Kevin brought back home.

They got into the elevator with another couple, who were Kevin’s neighbors. The girl of the couple looked at Claire with the same odd expression that the doorman had given her.

When they reached Kevin’s apartment, Claire didn’t notice anything unusual. It just seemed like “a rich kid’s bachelor pad.”

Kevin announced that he needed to use the bathroom. Upon his return, Claire realized that he had suddenly become very excitable. He was shaking, stuttering, and speaking too loudly.

Then, he stood up on the ledge in front of the wall of windows in his apartment, turned on a surround stereo system, and put on a song that never failed to get him pumped up. That song happened to be “The Circle of Life.”

Claire watched him give an entire karaoke performance before telling him she had to leave. He was very upset about it, crying and screaming at her to stay.

After getting back home, Claire made it clear that they would not be going out again. A few days later, she was scrolling on the dating app when Kevin messaged her, expressing his surprise to see her online.

They started texting for a while, and at one point, she mentioned that she was a nanny and had been taking care of some kids who lived on the same street as him, saying that she half-expected to run into him there.

Kevin freaked out, accusing her of watching him through his windows. He told her to stay away from him and threatened to ruin her life, declaring that his family was powerful and friends with the mayor.

Being a young 22-year-old, Claire panicked. The fact that Kevin was merely shooting empty threats at her had not yet registered in her mind.

She immediately blocked him on everything and tried to call her parents. However, her parents were unreachable since they were on a Caribbean cruise with their friends.

It took her about 48 hours to come to the conclusion that Kevin was not going to come after her and that his words were meaningless.

A few years later, she Googled Kevin’s name, curious to see how he was doing. She discovered he had been arrested for drunk driving, and his license was suspended due to unpaid tickets. So, clearly, he got what he deserved!
