This 28-year-old woman allowed her brother, 26, to move in with her and her 6-year-old daughter six months ago because he lost his job and was going through a difficult breakup with a woman he dated for a long time.

She and her brother have always had a close bond, and she agreed when he asked if he could live with her until he felt financially stable enough to live on his own.

In her view, it was great that she could be there to support and help her brother through this tough time in his life.

While living with her and her daughter, she didn’t make her brother pay rent, and they all ate meals together.

All she asked was that her brother bring her daughter to and from school as well as babysit sometimes.

Since she enjoys staying home and doesn’t go out often, her brother would only have had to babysit if there was an emergency or some other rare event that she had to leave her daughter at home and go somewhere.

“It hasn’t been great. He’s used to my mom, then his girlfriend, cleaning up after him and meeting all of his domestic needs. I have one kid and told him I wasn’t about to, and don’t have time to, treat him like another. He’s so messy in common areas, has friends over late often, is visibly drunk around my daughter, which I’ve told him needs to stop (but hasn’t),” she said.

Despite her clearly outlined expectations, her brother hasn’t followed them.

Two days ago, things got even worse, and she no longer wants her brother to live with her and her daughter.

This weekend, she had been planning to throw her daughter a party for her sixth birthday at a trampoline house.

Her paydays are the first and 15th of each month, and she survives just barely on each paycheck.

Three months ago, she spoke with the manager at the trampoline house and had a verbal confirmation of a date and time for the party. This was their only available slot within the next several months.

She confirmed with the manager that she would make a $200 payment prior to the party.

“Yesterday, I was trying to figure out how (with work) I’d go to make the payment and buy supplies and decorations before Saturday. My brother offered to take the $200 to the venue and bring $200 to my mom, who’d buy the supplies we’d previously walked through the store with my daughter to choose from. I gave him $400 yesterday morning and then didn’t hear from him until he came in late two nights ago saying he’d ‘lost’ the money and feels so bad,” she explained.

When she realized her brother had stolen her money, she told him that he needed to be out of her house by today.

She doesn’t know what her brother spent the money on, and she doesn’t buy his story about supposedly losing it. Even if he did, it doesn’t matter to her.

In order to save up enough money to pay for her daughter’s special day, she worked 50 hours of overtime throughout the past pay period.

Previously, she hadn’t had the money to throw her daughter a birthday party, and she wanted to be able to this year, especially since now her daughter and her daughter’s friends would be able to remember it and feel grateful for the fun times.

“I have no way to replace the money, and I’m beyond devastated. She’s so excited to have it there; it’s all she’s talked about for weeks. RSVPs are in, and the party was supposed to be a day from now! I have to break the news to her, and I’m literally crying right now just thinking about it. I understand a party may seem frivolous to some, but things have been rough for us basically her whole life,” she shared.

Her daughter is wonderful, and she hoped to give her daughter beautiful memories that they could share together.

After she told her mother about her brother stealing the money, her mother asked her not to kick him out because he didn’t have anywhere else to live. Her mother can’t have him stay with her right now.

But she wants to stand her ground regardless of how her mother feels.

Her brother crossed the line by stealing the money that was meant to go toward her daughter’s birthday party. He took away the opportunity for his niece to have a memorable, happy day.

She acknowledged that not only did her brother hurt her after all she’d done to help him, but he had also devastated his niece by stealing the $400.

In her mind, this is unforgivable for the time being. After her brother stole her money, she posted on social media in hopes of receiving any kind of support from her family and friends, but it didn’t seem to do much good.

She clarified that she wasn’t attempting to scam anyone out of money and was only looking for advice on what she could do for her daughter.

What would you do if you were in her shoes?
